Qantas to outsource ground handling across Australia

There's a Simpsons episode on this very topic when Mr Burns planned to sell the power plant.

Fleet presentation changed over between the 27th and the 30th of Jan.

Ramp and Baggage starting changing yesterday, but the last port doesn't change until late March.

Ground staff are not being outsourced. And hopefully that won't change.
 
plus the 8,000 earlier & these 2000 are not redundancies, there're sackings, given the flick, plain & simple.

mind you I'm not against the status extension, staed that in previous thread, off track here. ok.

seems if Virgin sacked more staff as QF have, that would've been preferred option, certainly by PR standards here instead of Noodlegate.

sackings don't get a blink of an eye, but a serving of noodles is headlines for months, funny that, not!
There is a difference between being made redundant and getting the sack. You'll get the sack if you do something wrong usually with no compensation other than leave entitlements. When you are made redundant there are financial entitlements ie payments for years of service etc

That is the power of collective bargaining. If you can get it good luck to you. Dont forget the bosses had their chance to agree or disagree. I disagree with Mr Joyce's compensation.

What a load of cough. Majority of the ground staff got paid approx $21hr under the QGS agreement, and considering most are casual, a little bit more than that. Get your facts right.

Swissport employees actually get paid a higher hourly rate than the QGS employees of around $23.42hr.

Just to put that into perspective for you, a retail worker who is a permanent employee (woolworths for example) only get approx $21hr. So I really don't understand how you are under the impression these 'entry level' workers are getting paid 'far too much'.
Maybe you're getting paid far too much for the work you do.

No orders yet, pending further hearings - so no one's getting their jobs back yet. And it was noted that if they did get their jobs back, they would have to repay redundancy payments - so would be interesting how many actually would take that up.

Corporate double speak.

"Our people are absolutely delivering" is a nice comment. But of course Swissport employees are not "our people" as far as Qantas is concerned (that's the whole point of outsourcing).

And "more staff rostered on" is obvious - if there are more flights operating then there will be more crew (actual Qantas/Jetstar employees) working.
