Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

But would they hold a flight for average person whilst that argument was made? We know AO executives intervened, chances are you or I would have never been allowed to board and have to present our case over an extended period, there would be no one on tao to lobby for us.

No point in having a negative PCR requirement if you dont enforce it. It is not essential to have him here, why wasnt the extra evidence provided before boarding? So sick of special treatment for sports people.

Wasn't it a charter flight? If so, it operates to the timings agreed by the people paying. I'm not sure a scheduled flight would be held in the same circumstances.

People infected with COVID-19 in the past are likely to be protected against reinfection for several months, a Public Health England (PHE) study has found, although experts cautioned those with immunity may still be able carry the virus in their nose and throat and therefore have a risk of transmitting to others.

...

This means even if you believe you already had the disease and are protected, you can be reassured it is highly unlikely you will develop severe infections but there is still a risk that you could acquire an infection and transmit to others. Now more than ever it is vital we all stay at home to protect our health service and save lives.

Maybe 1,200 tennis players, officials and broadcasters aren't the best idea after all, since we demand elimination in most states. The data doesn't seem to have been peer reviewed so, grain of salt, and all that, but does originate from Public Health England.

As part of the assessment for people like Tennys who test positive and who were previously positive they will look at factors like their viral load.

Sigh.
Well if we go by your logic on whether all "paid" or not then on most goods and services where GST is levied you will have to have indeed paid it when you paid for that goods or service. Even if you can claim it back later, you will still have "paid" the tax.

Yet again, a red herring - that wasn't the point being made. It was - you cannot assert that "all" paid tax without knowing "all" the people and businesses concerned tax circumstances. Do you know that?

Out of interest how do you not pay tax on your many purchases where GST should have been levied?

Here we go . It wasn't "me", Viz: My home business, although trading, does not pay or charge GST, at least for the past 2 years. How no pay GST? It doesn't make purchases :p (and if you don't know how that can happen, you need an accountant) Simples. How not charge? Not registered. As others have said here, all that's not uncommon. So again, are you sure that "all" the business etc concerned pay tax?

It shouldn't be difficult to just say "Oh, sure, I hadn't thought of that, it probably isn't a case of "all". " and to give others here a break when they make similar mistakes.

Hmmmm ... :)

Although there are currently some 19,000+ Victorians in a similar situation having had a past COVID-19 infection, and a good portion of these are wandering freely in the community. Most of these wouldn't have had any examination of their current viral load etc ... and surely if they are infectious months after originally being infected, you'd expect the Victorian testing figures to still be coming up with the occasional case here and there (IIRC the only ones in the last 2.5 months have been linked genomically to a NSW cluster).

Quite right. However they are Australians (much more so than Victorians, even if premiers would have you convinced otherwise) and live here.

Andy Murray is very considerate of others. I don’t believe he will attempt to travel to Melbourne if that would endanger others.
I dont know when the date of his positive test was, but I would suspect it means he does not have the time to finish his current quaratine, recover, be tested 72 hours prior to flying to Melbourne and then serve the required 14 day quarantine before the AO starts.

Vic Gov is currently advertising its border requirements on SA radio every 30 minutes or so. Never heard that from any state before.
Is it something like 'Think twice before coming to Victoria. If in doubt then DON'T COME'.

As has been said before on this thread, Victoria spent many years building up its brand with a series of excellent tourism ads backed up by having (it has to be said) a great product. It won't take long to undo this.

They were sprouting the previously obvious fact that if they didn't hold the Open this year it would have gone elsewhere and never come back.

I am disappointed that Australian citizens and Victorian residents are stuck in Sydney and Brisbane unable to return while tennis players come in on chartered flights from places where this "wildly infectious virus" (to quote the venerable Premier Andrews) is running rampant...meanwhile in Sydney & Brisbane with ZERO cases yesterday...

And I am disappointed that the hysteria over this virus strain has led to arrival caps being slashed - in Brisbane by 2/3 :(. A week ago Dr FM would have still been able to easily get a flight back into Australia (big $ but they existed). Now nothing. A group of doctors in London investigated whether they could charter a plane to bring them back, but no charters are allowed....

All over Sydney radio this morning too, what a waste of $. Perhpas invest $ in job creation not reminding Sydney we arent welcome and damaging their brand. The majority of people wanting to enter Victoria right now arent so much Sydneysiders but stranded Victorians. Getting those Victorians back to their homes and jobs will do more for economy at lower risk to public health than hosting a tennis tournament.

Its health first until sport is involved, its a total joke, i hope people choose not to go to the AO, send a message that Australians should come first. Spend the $ you would have on a ticket on supporting a local business instead.

It is bizarre and unfair. I do wonder what the Commonwealth think behind closed doors about it.

As a Victorian resident and therefore taxpayer, I wholeheartedly agree.
