I think in an ideal world the experts would all leave it to the CHO, but it doesn’t happen. I guess I read them all and decide which ones seem alarmist and which ones seem sensible. It also depends on their speciality. The epidemiologists seem a lot more theoretical and the worst case scenarios get presented, in the case of Collignon he is an infectious diseases specialist and I know from personal experience just how good he is, so that colours my viewpoint. I just don’t find him alarmist, which doesn’t mean he is always right. As this virus has progressed and more is learnt, pretty much everyone has been wrong.

Exactly, show me any state CHO who has been always right during this pandemic. All have had pretty special fails of their own. Whatever, the end is near.

So what happens if you arrive in SA and cannot quote that number?

I've seen a few people in that situation and they are taken off to the side and presumably assisted to apply on the spot.
Of course they could have been taken out the back and shot as I didn't stay for the end of the story but SAPOL seemed pretty understanding, even if it was in a resigned manner.

Our CMO seems rather forgiving of innocent mistakes and lack of knowledge. Besides, the Police are as confused as we are.

Because that is what the previous Commonwealth CMO and the present CMO also think.
Prof.Paul Kelly is one of the World's pre eminent epidemiologists and especially in respiratory viral pandemics.
Collignon is a well respected infectious disease physician who als is a very good exponent of the art of medicine as FM knows.

I know you were joking but who knows what could happen? The police doing border duty must be under incredible stress. It is easy for bureaucrats to make up silly, complicated, impractical rules but it is another thing altogether to spend anything up to 12 hours per day implementing them. I doubt anyone joined the police to do that.

And the figures for 'excess deaths' in the UK for the last year - up until November - make some sobering reading. Basically 15% or "nearly 91,000 more than would be expected based on the average in the previous five years." This is the highest excess deaths there since WW2.

On Jan. 4 Prime Minister Boris Johnson placed England under strict lockdown measures, with people unable to leave home except to buy essential goods and to exercise in their local area. Devolved governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have also imposed similar measures.

The capital has been particularly hard hit by the latest wave of infections. Figures released Tuesday by the U.K.’s national statistics office estimated that one in 30 people were infected with Covid-19 in London between Dec. 27 and Jan. 2, compared to around 1 in 50 in England as a whole.

On Wednesday, health service news outlet HSJ reported that the National Health Service had told senior doctors that the London’s hospitals will be overwhelmed by Jan. 19, with a shortage of 2,000 beds, even under the likely “best case scenario.”

According to the London Assembly, the number of people in the city’s hospitals grew by 27%, to 7,034, in the week up to Jan. 6 and the number on ventilators rose 42%, to 908. Khan said he had no choice but to act now in the face of a worsening situation. “The stark reality is that we will run out of beds for patients in the next couple of weeks unless the spread of the virus slows down drastically.

Concern as number of unlinked mystery cases in NSW grows to 14​

Four weeks after the northern beaches outbreak began, contact tracers in NSW are still unable to find out where 14 out the state's recent locally acquired cases have come from.

There had been a total 12 cases of unknown origin found since December 16 and yesterday that increased again by two.

The two cases – from the Canterbury-Bankstown and Lane Cove council areas – have been fully investigated without any link found.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian warned undetected community transmission is still ongoing in Sydney, meaning it was unlikely that restrictions would be eased anytime soon. She also raised concerns about falling testing rates in the state.

Gladys was very clear at yesterday's presser they are still working to find the source of NB. Genomics take up to 72 hours, so there is no way they will have completed their investigation within 36 hours for the latest mystery cases.

Thursday’s rolling 4 week report indicates 13 mystery cases in total in the following residence LGA:
3 Northern Beaches
3 coughberland
1 Canterbury Bankstown
1 Georges River
1 Lane Cove
1 Strathfield
1 Waverley
1 Wollongong
1 Woollahra

I know cases can get resolved or aged in the interim, and yesterday’s four week report indicates the mystery cases (12) are:

3 Northern Beaches
2 coughberland
1 Blacktown
1 Canterbury Bankstown
1 Lane Cove
1 Strathfield
1 Waverley
1 Wollongong
1 Woollahra

It seems that 1 in coughberland and 1 in Georges River got linked and 1 in Blacktown got added over that intervening period since Thursday

Also I think Northern Beaches did drop to 2 for a short period and go back to 3

Blacktown will be the guy from Mt Druitt Hospital, as the exposure sites for him included Blacktown Workers Club.

I hope Dr Chant is back on the presser today, she gives more details than McNulty (who evaded questions yesterday as obviously was less across the details of individual cases).

I have to say that I feel very sorry for SAPOL. Right through this, there has been a heavy presence at Adelaide airport and they just stand there, for hours on end. That'd have to be far tougher than dealing with a bunch of drunks at closing time.
SA is by far the best State to travel in and out of. It changes slightly every time but not illogically. They've maintained a constant scrutiny of travellers from day one.

EDIT. The banner said Housing Minister, but it actually was Luke Donnellan the Minister for Child Protection and Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers.

So far the media have not reported on the various announcements he made re aspects of his portfolio that affect Victorians such as Food Bank etc and have only reported Covid 19 aspects such as how the new permit system was going.
