New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

There was some sledging of the NZ economy above, but it is worth noting that:

...GDP in the September quarter, with the borders closed, and even with some restrictions being put back in place in Auckland during the quarter, rose a staggering 14 per cent, after falling 11 per cent in the June quarter.

By comparison, Australia recorded growth of 3.3 per cent in the September quarter, after falling 7 per cent the previous quarter.

I think those ‘political’ posts have been removed.

I am concerned that with Northern Beaches outbreak, we are unlikely to go to NZ without quarantine until at least Australia Day, provided the cluster doesn't seed outside Northern Beaches.

The new NZ bubble. You must be a Kiwi. Your flight must start and end in NZ. And you must go into quarantine for 14 days.

Australia Day lol you are dreaming.

NSW will be lucky if the domestic borders are down by Australia Day.

Forget the NZ bubble for at least a few more months.

All the recent talk was pointing toward at least March before it came to fruition.

Maybe Australia Day 2022 🤣

Or to put that another way - the other States will be lucky if NSW has it's problem under control by Australia Day.

Zero chance of trans-Tasman bubble by Australia Day even before the current northern beaches outbreak. NZ parliament is already on holiday break and so there wouldn't be any announcement before end January 2021 at the earliest. The government only committed to Q1 if no adverse developments. Even the airlines have assumed this means the last weekend in March.

Brisbane finally has a one way bubble

First 'quarantine free' flight from New Zealand touches down in Brisbane

The first 'quarantine free' flight from New Zealand has touched down in Brisbane.

About 28 people are on board.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced in early December Queensland was opening a flight bubble, saying the first flight would arrive the next day.

That first flight and every flight since have required quarantine, making this the first 'green' flight.

Oh Queensland, always late to the party 😂

28 people. Perhaps they’ve found a new use for Rex’s Saabs.

So, who is subsidising this sort of flight? It certainly won’t be around long unless it someone is.

These flights have operated throughout the last 10 months. I believe NZ is operating them under a scheme that the NZ government does to help supplement flights for the purposes of freight and exporting NZ goods. This was recently extended. The BNE flight did an AKL-BNE-LAX rotation I believe for the Australian government contract. That has expired and QF is doing the next BNE-LAX flights but they are also selling seats for repatriation, not just freight.

Australia has suspended travel bubble with NZ, effective immediately, for a period of not less than 72 hours

Australia has suspended travel bubble with NZ, effective immediately, for a period of not less than 72 hours

The Federal Government has suspended quarantine-free travel for New Zealanders arriving in Australia for 72 hours amid fears of a South African strain of COVID-19 across the Tasman.

A New Zealand woman infected with the highly infectious variant of COVID-19 first detected in South Africa visited around 30 sites before her case was detected.

Travellers coming from New Zealand to Australia in the next 72 hours will have to go into mandatory hotel quarantine.

Anyone who arrived in Australia from New Zealand on or since the 14th of January is asked to get a COVID-19 test and self-isolate until they get a negative result.

More to come.

Did I miss NZ opening up to Australia for NZ for quarantine free entry or is Adern just being somewhat two faced in wanting quarantine free travel into Australia as they are "well under control" despite having had a more recent infected person out and about than in Australia where things would seem to be better than "well under control".?

Jacinda Ardern 'disappointed' by Australia's move to suspend quarantine-free travel from New Zealand for 72 hours

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has said she is disappointed by Australia's decision to reinstate quarantine travel in the wake of the New Zealand's latest community COVID-19 case, adding that the situation is "well under control".

One case in NZ pops the 1 way travel bubble!! :( There is no hope for international travel bubbles within the next year imho....I read today that the Singaporeans are expecting this pandemic will last 4-5 years!!!

A little bit hypocritical of her, I think. Says a lot about her credibility.

Australia Is at least being consistent.3 day lockdown when QLD had a UK mutation and now a 3 day cessation of NZ travel bubble when South African mutation found there.Sorry Jacinda but when will you open your borders.

My guess is when the States here get sorted out about their own borders, and stop squabbling among themselves. I would guess the NZ approach is along the lines of - "you sort out your internal borders and then we will open up to you, but not before". Cant blame them really
