So wondering how many of you are confident you can retain WP in a Covid environment?
I got gifted 500 Status credits and needed 500 more to retain in 10 months.
Personally I don't see more than half getting there on just domestic travel, even with all Fully Flexible Economy with the occasional business flights.

I am interested to see how many members think they will retain their WP.
Do you expect that Qantas will lower the barriers again to let a few more requalify?

They have already lowered the barriers. Make a single new booking from 23 November onwards (needs to be a new PNR, I think) for a one way trip and you'll retain WP. See Book a flight and Extend Current status to 2022

I plan to make such a booking to extend my SG status and hopefully then try for WP once international borders reopen and QF starts flying to LHR again.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My membership ends end of March.

I did a big US trip in Jan so requalified easily, to Mar 21.

The status support gave me 900 SCs this year (600 + 6x50), I've done a couple of NTL-BNE trips and did a NTL-BNE-CNS-DRW//DRW-ADL-SYD trip in October. I've already requalified to Mar 22.

With the rollover announced I should have a 500SC head start next year, along with a 50SC loyalty bonus which I'll time to credit next year. I'm confident I can get the other 650 SC with just domestic flying. That will get me to Mar 23. Being in NTL, the max bundle on NTL-BNE is good value and gets me 40SCs a trip.

Beyond that? I'm really hoping we are back to normal international flying by then. If not, then I'll question the need to retain WP. I will get LTG early next year.

You can now fly NTL-BNE in J on the 717 and with a DSC might be even closer to retaining WP

Shut the front door.

Did I miss an announcement that 717s are going on this route?

OMG! This is the best news ever!

Yeah, I checked myself midway through replying. They have good J award availability too.

Amazing. I've been calling for this for years. QF group has treated NTL as a leisure market but most of the pax are Government / Defence / Aviation (Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon) / Mining etc.

Now the JQ base is closed I think it is wise to put fewer JQ flights on and more QLK flights.

Now, just open the QP in NTL and I'll be completely happy (though to be fair the new bar in the terminal looking out over the runway is not a terrible place to be).

This will make the DPS status run even more profitable in DSC

So NTL-BNE-SYD-DPS return all in J

So if Bali opens up then WP is attainable

In my experience the QLK leg from NTL is not included in the fare - so you will pay the BNE fare and then whatever the fare is from NTL-BNE (the web will give you one price but that's how it's calculated). Might be some slight differences with taxes etc - unsure if this will change with the 717s on the route. When I go to the US I usually try to fly back through BNE and connect on the QLK flight to NTL. But I always leave from SYD, of course, because of the FLounge.

I'd already retained WP status until end of April 22 thanks to 900 gifted SCs and a number of trips to Ballina, Canberra and Coffs Harbour as well as the "flight to nowhere". If the international network does start to recommence mid next year I should have no problem holding it another year.

For me, the biggest benefit of WP without the first lounge is the Premium call centre - I've never had to wait more than 2 minutes for them.

30 march anniversary here. I requalified with the 900 boost/support SC, a few on the ground SC, and a few leisure trips. I'll fly again to trigger the rollover offer, I should be able to rollover ~450 SC, plus 100 from points plus club. But my flying pattern won't recover quickly enough to requalify organically in March 2022. I'll need a couple of timely DSC, and on the ground SC, to get the missing 650 SC. That's if international fly resume in June 2021.

Totally not worried about it. If I don't fly I don't care. I hope to fly and obviously with the extension after ONE flight promotion it is a no brainer and ridiculously easy and that would see most of us extended well into 2022, with rollover to 2023. It things do not improve much before then even with vaccine(s) now starting to be approved and used then QF will do another round of status help. Either way I am confident it will be fine. And sure I hold LTG personally so at the absolute worst I drop to a very resonable level, but honestly QF is doing much more than so many other loyalty programs to make it easy ... I think most folks at any status level are being looked after pretty well.

my 2 cents.

Probably would have just been easier to park everybody's status like maternity leave etc until the gates open again. Or just have a flat rate, say 300SC per year to retain for all tiers.

I've won on some of Qantas's moves and lost on others. Overall I am quite happy - especially the nearly 1K SCs for free to put towards LTG.

I'll be receiving 600SC in March, with a possible 75SC from a future CC sign-on and 50SC from a loyalty bonus I'll earn this year. That'll leave me chasing 475... which I think is doable. As a Points Club member I might even book some award flights to get me over the line. What the point of WP is I am not sure, given I'm not likely to be flying overseas and experiencing F lounges, and I have LTG in the bag now anyway.

If I'm reading this correctly I believe it's a $210 add-on each way for the NTL-BNE leg in J. Not the worst value.

Code:
                            PUBLISHED AMOUNT CONVERTED AMOUNT
ADDON CITIES F/B CUR VIA NUC
ADDON ORG NTL-BNE N***** AUD 210.00 AUD 210.00
           ATP ZONE 360 ADD-ON TARIFF PARBS/8
PUBLISHED BNE-DPS IBDPO AUD 900.00 AUD 900.00

ONE WAY AMOUNTS MAY BE DOUBLED FOR ROUND TRIP

Easier, yes, but QF is a business and they make money from people flying. They want domestic travel to recover as much as possible to tide them over till they can start international flights again.

Sure international was comparatively low margin, but now the international fleet is costing them a lot as a grounded fleet still needs to be maintained, leases need to be paid etc. without the revenue from international flights to cover it
