Remember the NZ "bubble" between NZ and NSW and NT is for inbound (ie kiwis coming here) only... keep that in mind.

If Qantas extends status for another year, which seems logical, will they take back the statuskeeper credits already dished out? For instance, I had status extended to Feb 2022 so received no extra SC. Therefore no advancement to reaching a lifetime level. Others have received an advantage with the bonus SC and would still receive another year’s extension. Is this fair?

Personally I prefer the extension over the bonus SC but angst of trying to earn the rest or fly the 4 segments. It’s just food for thought and discussion.

Is it fair that those that had already retained their status in their own right did not actually receive an extension the first time?

Air NZ has allowed for a banking of the additional year extension which seems very reasonable. The situation has affected people differently. It would makes sense for the support/extension to be flexible so that it could reflect this.

In my mind the status credit support is far more helpful and reflective of how status is retained.

In any case (and as always) I think Qantas have over complicated the model now (probably not expecting this to have lasted this long) by introducing some complex rules over two support models. The easiest would be to continue with the current support program until things reopen towards the end of next year.

If not, It will be interesting to see what their third model looks like..
 
On this topic, I was curious to understabd how FF would react if Qantas wat to offer a public paid comp program, i.e. 80k points to requal. After all they already have this model that they offer privatly, without clearly explaining what triggers this offer (3 years rule?)

I would be surprised Qantas take back the sc it gave. Poor form, plus all the new graduate of the LTG program won't be too impressed.

Yes it’s fair.

You will get the status boost, just not until March 2021. You will get the same as everyone else, you didn’t miss out.


I don’t think its likely there will be another blanket extension, QF will more likely just continue the status support monthly credits. QF may have to waive the 4 ~ if travel doesn’t open up. But the monthly credits make the most sense now.
 
Agree. QFF have learned from March. This is a better way of doing it when you have a system of rolling anniversaries imo.
 
Much much prefer the actual status credits. Husband is going to do four quick flights to make that part of the requalification .
I don't see how I will requalify Nov to end of end 2021 currently. At least it will be a soft drop to gold

Only problem with the 4 ~ is that theres a chance a lot of FFers won't be able to get them. Domestic travel driving is going to be a lot more popular (as people are still not comfortable with airplanes in the present time) if there is any travel at all, and internationally is still a long way off being common use. For myself theres a real chance I would not get the 4 ~ and would have to take a flight for the sake of it to keep status

I also would much prefer monthly status credit support to to a status extension, even though as I'm based in Europe it will be almost impossible under the current circumstances for me to get the four flights. The fact my status credits were ticking along pretty much in line with where they would be had I been able to fly has kept me engaged with QFF much more than a simple status extension.

The status credit support has been very clever in keeping me continuing to credit the few flights that I can currently take to QFF, rather than looking at the reduced thresholds BA are currently offering.

Personally I doubt that Qantas will do anything yet, either more status credit support, or a status extension. I suspect they will probably take a look at things again in January and if necessary do something then.

I don’t think there will be any further support at all, except perhaps for those who reside in Victoria For everyone else in Australia it is now possible to fly domestic and earn your credits. Sure, they may be trips you weren’t planning on taking, but Qantas needs passengers, and if this encourages people to fly, well, that was the whole point of running a loyalty program in the first place.

I do think perhaps the bar for WP and P1 might be temporarily lowered, as you really need international flights to get these. It’s quite easy to get SG with only domestic.

I‘m an end of March WP and just requalified.

If I know that it’s unlikely for me to retain, I would rather seeks alternatives to air travel such as driving or remote meetings.

Everyone will be different but the support keeps me engaged. I also think it’s much harder to bring people back once they are gone or settled on an alternative (airline, mode of transport or otherwise).

A big gamble to provide no more support.
 
For those of us who received the Qatar Status Match from virgin (allowing Qantas benefits via OneWorld), who's game enough to try to seek a Qatar Status Extension? :)

Not really. In Adelaide there may be one flight a day to various places. And many businesses need Victoria to be working as part of their core clients. Whether Sydney likes to admit it, Melbourne is very much the business hub and many businesses still aren't happy with interstate travel.
