Rex launches its own frequent flyer program (in October 2023)

How does this company get away with these claims? From the article it says Rex told investors:

According to the document, Regional Express earmarks the eventual value of its frequent flyer program at between $1 billion and $1.6 billion “in 3-4 years” after capital city flights commence...

That is very optimistic considering Rex’s past offering had no partners and was randomly ditched.

However, i don’t deny it will need a program in place if it wants to compete on the triangle.

EDIT: by way of comparison, the market cap of REX is $135m today 🤣 .... quite the growth forecast over the next 3 years

Save for the costs of joining an alliance, it would actually make a lot of sense for them to join an alliance early on I would have thought, as it would really take the wind out of VA's sails and goal to be back on top as the second carrier in this country. An easy way to capitalise and increase patronage.

I'll be first on the record to say that, in the absence of major international airline partners - Rex loyalty is doomed, and so will their golden triangle expansion plans.

Well REX doesn't have the "baggage" that VA has with Star Alliance. 🙃

REX's Singapore owners just has to sort out "a deal" over at their rivals owners' (the state owned Temasek) to ensure they don't get a 'veto' of sorts... 🤣

Yup, a shame they couldn't make the CRJ200s work, despite the 'insane' frequencies on those RJs on the regional routes (especially to/from CBR), IIRC they had to replace some CRJs with the 'mainline' BAEs.
 
It’s funny how no large RPT operator has been able to get smaller jets to work in Australia profitability or sustainably.
In the US the crew of regional jets have shocking pay/conditions don’t they?
 
The freight capacity of a regional jet doesn't really compare to that of a 737 or A320

Regional Jets only work when the cost of fuel is cheap and there is sufficient passengers paying a high fare.

In Australia thin long routes don't generate the yield to justify the expensive aircraft and the then there isn't the freight capacity to pay for some of the flight.

Its disappointing that Virgin couldn't make the E170, E190 and the ATR72 profitable, would be interesting to see what happen, someone might one day write an article why theses aircraft didn't work for Virgin.

Back to Rex I think they are just pissing in the wind and not sure why they aren't talking to Virgin, those SAAB340s are going to wear out eventually but pouring money into a 737 isn't the best idea.

Why doesn't Flybuys add Rex as a partner, that way Rex don't need to create a new frequent flyer scheme from scratch.

That way Flybuys are an in with an airline in case VAmk2 fall over.

Some frequent flyer schemes need to be generating the money and the airline is just a side line.

I agree would love to read this perhaps we can ask Australian Aviation to do one for us!

We did have a virgin insider on here ages ago that said VA1 had enormous issues with reliability and operations of the embraer fleet as well, they were always ‘breaking down’.... from memory one was stranded in Hobart for ages when it broke down.

I don’t know if this is more of an issue with Virgin engineering operations/maintenance and how they looked after the fleet v the actual aircraft though.

Look at it this way. Many people like myself, need to go interstate at relatively short notice.

say had to go BNE/SYD/BNE for a same day return.

Want to get a flight around 7am & back about 5.30pm.

At 3 days notice Qantas $1000, VIrgin $900 & Rex $750.

As I pay for my own flights I'd definitely go with Rex, as long as they had a decent frequency, just in case an aircraft goes U/S.

Think even those people who don't pay for their own flights, but bill it to a client, might have pressure applied to fly cheapest of the day.

Will Rex be able to capture any public servants ?

I get most of my frequent flyer points through credit cards, not actually flying.

Would Rex be better concentrating on just 1 route initially, like Virgin Blue did ?

Maybe SYD/MEL with decent frequency, then with a few more aircraft BNE/SYD, then with a few more BNE/MEL.

Can also see them offering buy something like buy 10 sectors, get 2 free, which is the simplest form of freque
 
A very long time ago I actually earned some QFF points for flying PER-ALH which is now a REX route..... Though disappointed since the plane actually flew OVER my house both directions and therefore no photo opportunities.....
