Has anyone used back brace / posture corrector? I have scoliosis (curvature of the spine - like Princess Eugenie) and it was not discovered until I was in my adulthood so surgery was not possible. As a result I have had very bad posture - hunching and slumping. I have read that back brace / posture corrector (many are the cheap ones selling on Amazon) may help with posture. Am wondering if anyone here has used such tool? I understand that it does not correct scoliosis but may help with good posture.

I also have scoliosis, also never detected. I haven’t tried a brace, but had you thought of something like Tai Chi? I found it did so much to help with my bad posture.

Thanks, Flying mermaid. Have not done Tai Chi, but have done yoga and stretching exercises. Will look up Tai Chi.

It’s worth a try - they concentrate on leg strength and you have to really get your back straight to get the right posture for the movements. I was having a lot of falls and they stopped after I started Tai Chi. I had a bad fall a few weeks ago and I think it was because I had let my posture slip again after all my hassles last year with muscles, so I am really back to my Tai Chi again. Good luck :)

This sounds like something the boss should look at as well, although I can't tell her anything. :)

I must admit it's given me some thought, Tai Chi is good for mindfulness as well I believe so probably something I should try. I'm sure Mrs Flashback had no reservations in recommending it to me...... ;) The posture improvements would be a bonus too as she tells me I hunch over too much!

Any exercise like Tai Chi, Pilates, yoga etc improves core strength and that improves posture and in many cases, helps the mind. It will only help.

It’s a problem with IT people - I think we always hunch over our computers :)

It really made a huge difference to me. It does come with a little bit of eastern meditation stuff as well, but that’s good for clearing the mind as well and you don’t need to go into that if you don’t want to.

I found with the form that you really need to concentrate on it, otherwise you find yourself drifting off onto wrong bits, so it does work to give your mind a rest from things that are annoying or upsetting.

Tai chi is much more about the legs than core. They work on the legs by getting you to go as low as possible when doing the form. We watched a lady in Macau doing the form - stunning. She was almost flat on the ground she was squatting so much - we watched her for ages!

Mindfulness is found in the bottom of a bottle of red, IMHO.

Squatting is an incredibly good thing to do. I lost so much leg tone from being lazy but seem to be much stronger now and squats were the main thing that helped.

Maybe we would be all be healthier if we replaced our toilets with the Asian style toilets?

However, yesterday I started a 7 day course of medication to repair the situation. Three hours later, I had a racing heart with palpations and was carted off to Emergency, coincidentally located on Barry Marshall Drive, until my heart rate eventually dropped from 130+ to 80.
All fine today.

Bleedin' cancer, my winemaking friend from McLaren Vale has pancreatic cancer. Prognosis is not good. :(
Another friend is undergoing chemo and had part of a lung removed due to cancer. His chances are much better, bad year for his family, his sister was a ruby princess casualty. :(

That is very sad news for your SA friend. Dad had pancreatic cancer as did a much younger friend than Dad. Sadly it's incidence seems to be on the increase.

There are some new treatments using NanoKnife surgery. Some positive reports i read. But generally outlook for pancreatic cancers is not good as I understand. Father died of it but not particularly genetic as I’ve been told.
