Which international airlines currently flying pax services to BNE?

Hi team

My wife and I are working on getting my mother in law an exception to come and visit us from Canada. Ideally (assuming we manage to get permission for her to come) we would like her to fly into Brisbane rather than Sydney as her port of entry. I am having trouble figuring out which airlines are currently flying into BNE with the 500 per week passenger limit.

She'll be coming from West Coast Canada so I think the best routing would be via Tokyo or Hong Kong. Are CX, ANA and JAL currently flying passengers into BNE? I think going via the Middle East would be too far so QR and EK would be out.

Isn't this likely to just get cancelled down the track?

Late October marks the start of the IATA northern winter scheduling period, which is an arbitrary date that many airlines have cancelled their flights up to so far. Air Canada will likely announce further cancellations beyond this date in the near future.

QR, EK, CI and NZ all have regular services into BNE. However the problem is the pax limit of around 30 per flight, meaning that most airlines are only selling J/F seats. Be prepared to pay $10k plus for a seat inbound to BNE (no problems with outbound seats fm what I can understand). Plus add on $2,800 for quarantine fee for one person for 14 days in BNE on arrival (QLD government charge). A very expensive exercise!
Some airlines are selling Y seats, but in most cases the Y bookings get cancelled close to departure and you may then have to deal with a flight credit.
You are also competing for the seats with people with compelling reasons to get priority for seats eg a dying family member.
Sorry I can’t be more positive, but just trying to give you a realistic picture of what I am seeing on a regular basis.

Yes my first thought was: if it's a just a visit, and nobody is actively dying, or dead, you're not going to get an exemption. There are stories all over the media of people who can't get into the country.

Yes I am familiar with the challenges of both getting an exemption and the costs associated with paying for a premium cabin seat and the cost of quarantine. We are working on getting the documentation together for the exemption, so in the meantime I am working to devise a plan for the best travel route so I can start looking at ticketing for that route.

I don't see SQ mentioned and I'm not sure if it's possible to connect to a service/transit through Singapore currently from your mother-in-laws location, but this is what my mother has been forced to book, as her initial flight would have been CX direct to BNE (from HKG) and it quickly became clear they were selling something that wasn't going to fly – it was eventually cancelled.

I'd heard/see in my experience that the premium airlines like SQ/QR weren't selling F at all. My mother ended up booking on SQ in J, but had F been an option we would probably have picked it for the highest chance of getting here.

SIN airport is only allowing transit from a limited list of preapproved cities which seem to exclude anywhere in North America unfortunately.

@AIRwin Thanks for the update! That's good to know.

By way of general update, we have not managed to secure a travel exemption for the passenger in question. Passionate travel exemptions seem very difficult to come by.
