My excess Points is relevant to Qantas but I suspect many have other points that are languishing there
Has anyone thought of spending on non flights ?
Having had some flights cancelled and our usual (flights excluded ) points I am wondering what to do especially with no end in sight of borders opening

Do you have a toaster? :p

On a serious note I understand where you're coming from and am also considering if it's worth spending some of my QF points on physical items. I am considering a new DAB radio having enjoyed my tinny portable during my WFH experience.

I have used QFF points for hotel/motel bookings to travel intrastate.

I'm hanging in there and hoping that I can use them sometime

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My points are not going to expire (under current rules) as I use the Assure app every day. But now sitting on enough points for 2-3 Qantas OneWorld Award J fares (under current rules). I generally use these to construct a 14-16 sector RTW holiday.

Have pondered a few times when & where I will get to use them, but not taken any action so far. Very reluctant to squander them on something that is very poor value.

Our personal circumstances mean we won't be travelling for quite some time; I managed to empty my velocity account into JB gift cards just before they put a stop to it and have subsequently drawn down on my QF balance too. Definitely not the "best value" but there are earning opportunities aplenty for when the time comes to travel again.

We find ourselves in a similar dilemma, when is it enough points to start thinking about depleting balances in a worthwhile manner. Since CV kicked in I've been diverting spending to credit cards mainly earning hotel points as we now have enough for approximately 50 nights across multiple chains at mid tier hotels ie Pink Palace Honolulu, Conrad Hong Kong. I'm reaching the point of being directionless because all these points are nothing more than numbers on the spreadsheet.

Yep, understand completely, I've diverted all my incoming coles and woollies supermarket points to cash back on groceries.

Coles and Woolies are being sent to points for cash.
The Qantas ones ....I don't know whether to take the hotels or wait it all out

You know if I could get my head into the game of believing I am ever travelling again, I think I would plan 3 dream trips for the 2 of us, work out what miles I need in which program for flight, what hotels I would like to stay and how many points that requires then after that might go to a cash back card. However, it's all in the too hard basket at this time.

We passed on buying AA miles on their special deal this month as they seem to have devalued their miles for redemptions.
Meanwhile we are both getting Close to an amount of points with Qantas and Virgin that will be difficult to use.
Our family is still doing ATO so their balances are now rising sharply.
We have no bookings now seeing Covid is growing again in places around the world.

Definitely not buying any points no matter how good the deal might be. I probably haven't bought any points for 3 years or so, as the realisation hit that balances were growing quicker than we were spending.

I would recommend holding on to them. Travel will reopen. If award seats out of Australia become difficult, there are lots of options with Emirates out of Asia which you'll be able to use them on (for example, Emirates first and business class out of Bali used to have wide open availability, and you can couple that with either an economy redemption to Bali, or a cheap paid ticket, when the time is right.)

I'm a bit in between - once my next round of flights is cancelled I will have more than 1 million, and Mr Seat 0A has a similar amount. We normally spend about what we earn and keep a bit of a buffer for "opportunities", but I feel that the amount we have will be "excess". I was not really concerned about this until I started reading some of the threads on here about Qantas financials etc and now I too am wondering whether I should reduce points accumulation, buy gift cards etc, or be like @Toula92122 and plan for some wonderful trips when the doors finally open - assuming there are any airlines and that the points still have value. Feeling quite conflicted.

No points are excessive... hang on to it for now if Qantas... doubt they are in serious financial trouble now as their points scheme is earning them the most money at the moment
