Order a Qantas "care pack" for $25

Shows just how little it costs the airline to provide these little extra in J.

I reckon $25 is about 5 times what it would actually cost? The pajamas are currently USD4 per set on alibaba (and yes, they even have the martin grant ones at that price! Minimum order 500 sets). The amenity kits... apparently the brands supplying do so either at cost, or pretty close to cost. The cost of the kit itself, excluding the lotions, but including socks, kit, eye shades, toothbrush are USD0.40c upwards (basic L’occitane kit at that price, plus the lotions, which is where the brand comes to the party).

(alibaba is how amazing!... you can literally enter ‘airline pajamas’ or ‘airline amenity kits’ and up come dozens of exact product matches!)

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

Having said that though, just shows that other airlines could still offer PJs in J class given its becoming few and far between.

Still annoying they don't offer these on day flights.

Not sure the suppliers in a retail search on alibaba, are the same as the ones for the airline...

I don’t think that’s a retail search.... minimum order 500 to 1000 pieces, some 10,000 pieces. They appear to be dedicated aviation suppliers. Anyway, if anything, an airline should be able to secure even better prices for large quantities.

A general error occurs after your credit card is verified and prevents purchase - anyone else having this problem? The took the $1 though!

Was happening to me when using Safari and paying with ANZ. Tried 5 times and now have 5 $1 charges. Tried using Google Chrome instead and it worked!

Only saw a news article about this after it had already sold out. In any case I have plenty of airline PJs already.

I think the lack of PJs in J on day flights is probably more down to the logistics of getting a sufficient quantity delivered to the plane and stored appropriately onboard in the cabin. Storing PJs for two night flights takes up half the space of storing for four flights.

I would have thought they would have been stored at out stations for resupply, where that applies... and it’s only one service which is via singapore? all the other flights are out and back IIRC? Should be no issue storing PJs. Bedding can be more bulky (PJs aren’t just for sleeping).

They got 3 x $1 from me before I thought of the possibility that it sold out. Oh well. Gotta be quick 'round here! I'll try google chrome and not safari, if there is a next time. Though I have noticed lots of new PJs on ebay going at $80 - opportunists strike again. I'm gonna pass. Never selling my 747 J class joy flight memorabilia.

Flights ex SIN/MNL/CGK/HKG/NRT/BKK have the supply of PJ's come up on the flight from Australia. A few exceptions are that QF1 ex SIN is loaded ex SYD and QF2 for SIN-SYD are loaded in SIN.

First Class amenities are double catered ex AU, PJ's are loaded in each port.

When Qantas does provide something from an outstation (PJ's ex LAX for example), it is all shipped, not flown in.

Love how complicated QF makes everything. 🤣

This kind of arrangement is why when your day flight gets delayed by 12 hours there are still no PJs ... system cannot handle it.

Back OT, I thought about buying a couple for the folks .... but seemed kinda tacky. If it was the CX PJs then i would have, they are comfy and classy.

I guess it's about managing costs. Doing some very rough math, you would need to keep 10,000 PJ's in SIN alone to cover flights for a month. In addition, you have to pay the caterer to remove the storage off the aircraft, put the product in it (and pay for its storage), and put it back on, when it can be done the once in Australia (because in Australia there is always a full exchange of stowages, but overseas, stowages can be marked for non exchange, so they remain onboard during a catering exchange - no cost). Plus, you then have to pay for shipping to all those different ports, when you can centralise it as much as you can from 1 port and ensure the product is loaded.

Agree, VA give (gave) theirs out on day flights which I loved. Much better quality I found too, someone else mentioned they shrink but I haven’t had that.

Thanks. I did a double take on mviy's post! Which actually thinking about it, each plane flies out and back once, so it wouldn't matter whether it's day or night flights, you'd still only need two sets of PJs on board... not potentially four sets mviy was suggesting?

But at the fares QF charges, logistics shouldn't be a matter for the passenger to have to worry about.
