NSW Coronavirus spread: Three thousand in Newcastle asked to self isolate due to new cluster

Newcastle Mayor Nuatali Nelmes has said the confirmation that three people in Newcastle have now tested positive for COVID-19 has raised the prospect that the second wave has now reached NSW’s second largest city.

Last night, NSW health issued a warning after a man in his 20s tested positive to coronavirus yesterday morning. The man is a close contact of the Newcastle teenager and man announced the previous day.

Finally......an incitement charge......

Nearly 200 fines issued by Victoria Police

Victoria Police has issued 196 fines in the last 24 hours as they continue to enforce stage 4 restrictions.

Of those fined, 43 were issued for curfew breaches and 51 for not wearing masks.

Officers have also raided two properties in Melbourne's east and arrested two men after an investigation into a protest planned for the weekend.

A 41-year-old Mooroolbark man has been charged with incitement, while a 41-year-old Chirnside Park man is expected to be charged later today.

Why are those planned protesters arrested and charged for incitement, but the ones that organised a rally for 10,000+ in defiance of the law were allowed to go about their business?

My guess would be
  • Unknown community spread is rampant at present = negative consequence are significantly greater at present
  • Restrictions are much harsher at present, and as such the offences would be more
  • A State of Disaster is in force
And possibly having their time over again the authorities this time around may have decided that they should have gone harsher the last time.

PS: The organisers of that rally were all fined for breaching restrictions

My guess is because the rally is specifically anti-mask as one of the points of the protest.

The previous protests relate to other matters and the protesters were giving provision to comply with CHO orders.

It's funny how fake news spreads on the internet, I came across this comment an another forum I occasionally visit. I had a good laugh. 🤣

There is talk of a phase 5 in melbourne which rumours say include Wuhan like things such as locking or welding people into their homes.

They were at best selective with their compliance. At the time you could not gather in numbers of greater than 10 (or 20...something like that).

Zero in Qld today. Have they dodged the three women tsunami? Almost there. Plus the security guy.

I guess you mean enforcement......it happens quite often.

I keep reading about people in Vic being issued with fines for being at convenience stores and restaurants that dont deliver after 8pm - if those venues donet offer delivery, how are they allowed to be open after 8pm?

I think under the work exception.......

I think woollies n Coles announced they will close at 745pm but their workers go home after curfew has started.

I work night shift one week per month. Around the corner from the office is 7/11 which I occasionally frequent for coffee or a snack if I manage a break, and also walk around the block to get some fresh air. I am unsure if going to 7/11 is allowed while I am at work between 8pm and 5am...or if by doing so my coffee ends up costing an extra $1652...

Your point is taken, but your example provides for one enforcement officer dealing with two simultaneous crimes. The protests are separated by months and with countless enforcement officers available...

According to abc Covid live blog

11 new cases in NSW

In news just in, 11 new cases of COVID19 have been diagnosed in NSW in the 24 hours to 8:00pm last night.

None are from hotel quarantine. One is still under investigation, a female in her 60s from south-western Sydney

One new case was acquired in Victoria and has been in self-isolation.

Nine were locally acquired, linked to known cases, including: one who attended the Apollo, Potts Point. Eight are close contacts of known cases.

Presumably they are open at those hours to serve those who are permitted to be outside the home between 8pm and 5am - particularly those permitted to work in those hours.

This thread has numerous posts on BLM from all sides. All of this has been discussed in depth and detail previously.

Some differences.

protesters organising for different purpose....aiming for smaller group to meet gathering exception...provide masks and sanitiser....but also unfortunately Vic Premier indicate I’m guessing on advice of Vic Police that not practical to arrest ten thousand or thousands and thousands of people attending....one protest went ahead, the other stopped at the planning stage

No net change in NSW status on community transmission I think....
