North to Alaska ….the Covid rush is on..

The cruise industry is running with a 100% failure rate atm…...

SEATTLE, WA. AUGUST 4TH, 2020. – The American owned, U.S. flagged small-boat adventure company, UnCruise Adventures, confirmed today that a guest received a phone call from the State of Alaska with notification of a positive COVID-19 test while onboard

I haven't heard anything about issues with Explorer Dream since she restarted.

Would any issues be reported.. or perhaps just erased from any public record ?

There are probably ships cruising in local waters around the world, how they are dealing with Covid may remain unreported.

From the Seabourn Facebook Group - these people are very hopeful. I wouldn't be planning on cruising anywhere in the next 6 months or probably longer

We are on the Encore tour in November, Dubai to Bali. Anybody know something, sailing or not?

We're on the Quest to Antarctica from Santiago, Chile on November 29, 2020. Heard rumors that Princess has suspended cruises until December. Anyone heard anything about Seabourn cruise to Antarctica?

All the above have been reported. Given the attention that coronavirus has, and the record these countries want to maintain, there's no way it would be unreported if cases arose.

So there really aren't a lot of folks paying for future cruises.

Typically accounting standards don't let you recognise revenue until you provide the service.
A booking would be
Dr Cash
Cr Unearned Revenue (which is a liability)

An industry insider comments on the state of play , pretty fair summary imo by cruising support media.

As you know tgh I am basically interested to see if Silversea will still exist.I know it will not be the same almost certainly for the rest of my cruising days.but although things are dire RCL should still exist in some form. Some of the assessments.

While Royal Caribbean has enough liquidity to weather the storm, it still estimates to burn over $200 million per month and is likely to raise more debt along the way.
Royal Caribbean will be able to return to its 2019 levels somewhere around 2024-2026, which means that the business will have a long and painful recovery ahead.
We believe that the opportunity cost of investing in Royal Caribbean today is too high, while the upside is limited.

New York, July 14, 2020 -- Moody's Investors Service, ("Moody's") placed the ratings of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. ("Royal Caribbean") on review for downgrade including its Ba1 Corporate Family Rating, Ba1-PD Probability of Default Rating, Baa3 senior secured rating, and Ba2 senior unsecured rating. The company's Speculative Grade Liquidity rating of SGL-2 is unchanged.

Indeed.. and you are not an orphan in that respect.
The pent up demand is substantial, as is the caution from the largely well heeled / well educated clientele

So even if cruises restart some ports won't take them in.
Cayman Islands.

Seychelles not until 2022.

Viking cancels 2020.

But then the unexpected.Unicruise cancelled it's Alaska season as a person tested positive on the first cruise.Unfortunately it turned out to be a false positive.

Silver spirit in the news….
It probably seemed like a good idea, local cruise , local passengers, what could go wrong ?

The thing is, it might not even be Covid. Its the mere suspicion that is the issue with cruising because common flu or covid may be impossible to determine without a test.

This is the problem with Covid and cruising. The testing is first of all usually not available quickly-at least rapid result tests. So unfortunately if there is a suspected case the cruise is over and the chance of further cruising gets less.S it is just a suspected case.I hope we find out the result.however it is not a cruise I would ever take.
However in this case it was not a cruise I would ever take.No alcohol!

Then there is the situation with the Unworld cruise in Alaska.A 36 passenger vessel.guest tested negative before leaving for Alaska.3 days later flew to Juneau and tested at the airport.3 days later test was positive.returned to port the next day and test was negative. So possibly a false positive.no other passengers or crew developed Covid.
however the Cruise Company has assumed the worst so cancelled the season.

…and here's the rub….. every port and local government authority is/will be watching the floating petri dishes like a hawk.
The cruise companies have a lot to lose if they are perceived as still spreading the virus around.
