The view from my "office"

Pirate's Bay, where there is a small fleet of tuna boats that are for hire. Fantastic day's fishing; I've done it a few times, mostly when I was an undergraduate.

And that meant the infamous Lufra Hotel. Its gone a bit up-market today, but many a boozy night spent here before a day's fishing and during geology excursions ... sometimes with unfortunate results.

Now, nothing's for free, so there will be a test at the end of this post. Opposite the Lufra is the Tessellated Pavement - a wave-cut platform. Now, the sedimentary rocks here are just about horizontal, meaning all the rocks in one horizon are pretty homogeneous.

Here's a general view - the rock is jointed into 'tiles' by two sets of fractures.

Joints even cut through some drop-stones in the rock:

This site is a classic Year 1 Geology Excursion field test site. So, let me pass on the favour.

What would cause the jointing like that? Yes, its 'stress', but what might caused the right-angled jointing/fractures?
Look at the pics 2 and 3. Notice how some of the tiles have 'pans' (depressions) and some have 'buns' (rises) in their middles. Why would that occur (depressions Vs rises)?

You don't get to adjourn to the Lufra until you get the correct answers.
I remember going on a geography excursion to the tesselated pavement down Corrimal way, and took none of it in back in 1965 apart from the name. I do remember the girl I sat behind in the bus though :)

Back in the 60s bouddi National Park had no facilities so was a pretty quiet place. The reason we went there was because for a couple of the Geology students it was part work.i went there for the free ride there and back.Unfortunately all my pics from the 60s were stolen in a robbery in 1971.Can't think what they would have done withem.lost my record collection as well.
But what the geology folk were studying was this-photo from the web.

The place has been developed with a coastal walk that you would almost certainly enjoy.lots of rocks. ;)

As JohnM is down south I will fill in with some Perth beach shots.

It was Perfect weather for most of the day today so we drove to the far northern suburbs of Perth and had fish and chips by the sea at Alkimos Beach. About 45 km north of the CBD and about 60 km north of our house.

We then drove about another 6 km north to Shorehaven Beach to have a look at the remains of the Alkimos - the shipwreck that gave this area its name.

The only major part left above water is the engine block (Triple expansion steam engine). It is about 400 metres offshore these days.

Some of the story of the wreck. We used to have a few artifacts from this wreck on display in the Customs House in Fremantle.

More commonly known as South Geraldton ;)

And for the record, in a public forum, I hereby will announce that @JohnM is a good bloke. He calls me during the day and let's me know that he's at the venison farm and what's to know what he can bring back to PERfect for me. What a champ! :)

I'm sure I'll need to come back and edit this post in future :)

Some memories from my journal just came up - one year ago today. That means for the next 3 weeks I'm going to get photos of New Zealand popping up - I think I'm going to need more alcohol (and that's saying something)

Sydney first lounge and then flight to NZ

At least most of us have already done a bit and have the memories to comfort us.
I really feel for those who were saving points and planning their first adventure in J or F
The world has changed and we will never see our Utopian world of travel again.. well not as we saw it anyway..
