Certainly a hopeful day today in Vic and we all want the trend to continue.

Bit concerned that there was an infectious couple from Sydney in Bateman’s Bay - half of Canberra seems to go there in school hols.

For those that missed it, those in restricted areas in Victoria are now (as of yesterday) meant to only shop and exercise locally.
If you are an existing member of a golf club you are still allowed to drive to it. But you are not allowed to buy groceries, or a takeway coffee, at a business two suburbs away if you have local options. You are not allowed to drive many km to use walking or cycle paths, if you have closer options. etc.

One can only presume that he police were finding some Loophole Larry's who were probably out and about doing other things, but then used shopping or exercising as being their "legitmate" reason for being far from home. ie People from Coburg being pulled up at Rye. Some may have been legit too, but the more people mix, the more potential for spread.

Face masks are being advised and encouraged now and especially if 1.5m cannot be maintained. I am not out much, but yesterday's at the supermarket (I am in the SE) it certainly was the highest proportion of people wearing masks that I have seen at my local supermarket. It is the first time that I have seen more people, than not, wearing masks there and that was in a supermarket at a time that was not that busy, and so technically a mask was not required.

They are two separate things, but yes both related to healthcare and so relevant in the one post.

There are no tables for healthcare workers. It was just a supplied number.

The table is hospital patients, and is below my comment Hospital cases of all categories have decreased.

The figures in the table that you refer to is not a table of new daily cases, but is a table of total cases and the daily change in cases.

Each day the change in cases is a combination of new cases and any adjustments made for various reasons (ie duplications, errors, etc)

With Vic today you will note the clarification on the table:
# VIC 217 new cases, 29 reclassified

So there were 217 new cases today. But the change in cases is 217-29 = 188

Yes it seems it is moving around NSW going on quite the sight seeing tour

Two venues added to growing list of NSW coronavirus danger zones, as 15 new cases reported and community transmission increases


The venues are the bistro at Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on the NSW South Coast where two people who are confirmed cases visited on July 13.

Another confirmed case visited the Albion Park McDonald's in the Shellharbour area on July 15.

Health authorities add two new venues to a growing list of places where people who visited at the same time as COVID-19 cases were present need to self-isolate.

NSW has 15, 4 of which are hotel quarantine. Both NSW and VIC upping the testing efforts;

More details on the 15 NSW cases today ie in the 24 hours to 8:00pm last night.

Five cases, including two from the same household, are under investigation with no clear source of infection.

Two of those under investigation are the Soldiers Club and McDonald's cases.

The three other cases under investigation are two in south-west Sydney and one in the Blue Mountains.

Four cases are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

Another five cases are linked to the Crossroads Hotel.

Another case, reported yesterday afternoon, is the third case at Thai Rock in Stockland Mall, Wetherill Park.

So by my count 8 are under investigation (5 today in the official stats, and 3 previously) due to no link to a known outbreak.

The new Vic Rules of shop/exercise in your own suburb (or at least as close as possible) are now being enforced for those people living in restricted suburbs.


Victorian man fined for driving 30km to buy butter chicken

A Victorian man has been fined for driving more than 30 kilometres to buy a specific type of butter chicken.

The man, who drove from Werribee to Melbourne's CBD for Indian food, was one of 74 individuals fined in Victoria in the last 24 hours for breaching public health orders.

Other infringements were issued to multiple people gathering in public and private places to catch up with friends and to consume alcohol.

I tend to think that some were just using the exercise/ food shopping reason as just a handy excuse to cover being out for other reasons if checked.. The do it local only rule shuts off that loophole.

W.A has now recorded the 20th positive Covid-19 result off one Emirates flight into Perth from Dubai. The local Health Minister is wondering, fairly reasonably I think, if there was some sort of event on that flight that caused them to become infected. No other flight has had anywhere that level of positive results.

"Health Minister Roger Cook said the Emirates cases raised questions about whether the travellers could have been infected mid-flight.

"It does give you some cause for concern about what happened on that particular flight," Mr Cook said."

WA records 20th case of coronavirus linked to Dubai flight as two historical cases found

A 43-year-old Romanian man is the latest confirmed case of coronavirus in WA after three new cases were identified overnight, bringing the state's total number to 651.

Victoria has recorded 217 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 5353.
The overall total has increased by 188, after 32 cases were reclassified – largely due to duplication.
Within Victoria, 11 of the new cases are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and 205 are under investigation. There was one case in a returned traveler in hotel quarantine.

Three new deaths have been reported since yesterday: a woman in her 90s, a woman in her 80s, and a man in his 80s. All died in hospital. To date, 35 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

In Victoria at the current time:

• 1020 cases may indicate community transmission
• 2608 cases are currently active in Victoria
• 110 cases of coronavirus are in hospital, including 25 in intensive care
• 2709 people have recovered from the virus
• Of the total cases, 4909 cases are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 324 are from regional Victoria
• Total cases include 2795 men and 2529 women
• More than 1,278,000 tests have been processed
• Total number of healthcare workers: 405, active cases: 157 (of which the vast majority were acquired in the community)

Cases currently linked to public housing in North Melbourne, Flemington and Carlton are as follows:

• 286 cases are residents of various public housing towers in North Melbourne and Flemington. Investigations are continuing into how these cases are linked.
• 48 cases are residents of various public housing towers in Carlton. Investigations are continuing into if and/or how these cases are linked.

At least 100 of the Alfred St residents will be required to continue a period of isolation or quarantine, following completion of the site’s lockdown tonight, due to either being an active case or a current close contact of a known case. The conclusion of quarantine will vary for individuals and we will continue to advise residents what this means for them.

Cases currently linked to key outbreaks are as follows:

• 164 cases have been linked to Al-Taqwa College
• 33 cases have been linked to JBS abattoir in Brooklyn
• 23 cases have been linked to Glendale Aged Care facility in Werribee
• 21 cases have been linked to the Northern Hospital
• 4 cases have been linked to the Woolworths Distribution Centre in Mulgrave
• 3 cases have been linked to Warringal Hospital Heidelberg
• 9 cases have been linked to St Basil’s Home for the Aged in Fawkner
• 5 cases have been linked to Clever Kids Childcare in Ashburton
• 13 cases have been linked to Estia Health Aged Care in Heidelberg
• 5 cases have been linked across two Serco sites in Box Hill (2) and Mill Park (3)
• Three new nursing homes have reported cases, with single cases now linked to Bethlehem Aged Care Facility in Bendigo, Bill Crawford Lodge in Ballarat and BUPA Edithvale.

It is hard to be definitive from the data, but it would seem that the original hotspot suburbs locked down first had proportionately less of today's cases than they have been. If so that may be a good indication of the lockdown measures starting to take affect.

Casey however is bucking the trend and is increasing.

WA should also be looking very very closely at their quarantine procedures as well rather than just pointing at the actual flight.... it’s possible there has been spread intra-quarantine...

I was given a free mask in the Apple Store today. But was disappointed to see many of the staff both inside and the guards outside had beards. Those beards make their masks pretty ineffectual, possibly giving them and customers a false sense of security.

She said she was flat out making masks at the moment!
