Qantas Status Credits Boost

in doubt I went with the Qantas premiere platinum for which the 75sc are awarded after first spend (exclude ato gambling etc...) with the added advantage to count towards life time tally, unlike ANZ one.

Just spoke to Qantas Money on the phone and spoke to a supervisor who confirmed that QFF only backdates for flights. For bonuses through card spent, it uses the date it gets added to the account. So it's 6-8 weeks time. No go for me. :(

I'm just on the phone with them trying to clarify this and I don't see any documentation on this either. Do you know when they considered you've "earned" this SC to affect your status? All they keep saying is that it gets deposited in your account in 6-8 weeks. I don't need to see it and can wait 6-8 weeks, but it would be good to know if I've "earned" the 75 SC upon making that transaction. Can't seem to find it in the T&C
Good question. I can't answer for sure. Looking at the latest status credit offers (BP, Woolworth) the status credit were dated to the day of the corresponding transaction that earned the SC, even if the SC posted days or weeks later. Chances are Qantas will do the same with their credit card, but the only way to know for sure is to talk to someone competent on the phone, or better to have someone telling you how it went with their card. I wish I could, but I am waiting for my 75sc at the moment, and that's the first year Qantas is offering SC on their card.

You're right. BP and Woolies were credited on the date it was earned. I don't fully trust someone in a foreign call center that easily anyways. I've applied for the Qantas card. Apparently you just need to spend $1 or more to qualify for that bonus SC. At least I'll have both ANZ and this card to bank on hopefully.

Thanks

But I had one trip booked that was refunded due to COVID19 that would have earnt me SC and was planning a round the world trip in J using Oneworld carriers in October - November 2020 that would hve got me back to Platinum and Mrs Popeye well and truly Gold . 🤔

'But' .. what? We 'all' (or many of us) have had trips cancelled that would have done wonders for our status. QF are boosting everyone 'as we stand'. This boost was something no-one saw coming, so good on 'em.

With the QF card, the status credits post following the issuing of the statement on which the first spend occurs. In my case, a statement was issued the day the card was approved (only included the annual fee). A month later, the second statement was issued showing my spending and the status credits posted a day or two later.

So you need to allow around 5 weeks from approval.

I received the 50% status boost earlier in the week (March expiry and re qualified without an extension) and just checked my account and have received another 50SC. Says on the Activity Statement "QFF STATUS CREDIT SUPPORT 01-APR-2020".

Will have to see what email floats in later today??

I am Gold and got QFF STATUS CREDIT SUPPORT 01-APR-2020 of 15 SC in my account this morning.

Looks like they are doing month by month. We are both April expiry (WP; SG) and no StatusKeeper🥇 payments yet.
cheers skip

I find this cheering of Qantas rather odd.

It is in Qantas' business interests to offer these status boosts. They are not given out of the generosity of their heart.

For example:
1. If they didn't offer these status boosts to keep members engaged, they risk loosing them to other frequent flyer programs. Remember Qantas is not planning to fly internationally until April 2021. By that time, people travelling internationally will have tried the competitors and may have realised that the grass is greener. Even after Qantas start flying again, they may decide to stay with their newfound frequent flyer program (habits are sticky).

2. If they didn't offer these status boosts to keep members engaged, they risk loosing them to other loyalty programs. Remember that Qantas points is not the only thing you can earn with credit card spend. If people start applying for/using credit cards that earn flybuys points, they might realise that the program offers decent value and not return to the QFF game for a long, long time (habits are, once again, sticky).

3. If they didn't offer these status boosts to help members retain their current status levels, they would risk losing even more money on these enormous outlays of capital -- their lounges. Lounges cost a huge amount of money to run -- airport rent, electricity, staff, food & beverages, etc etc. If they are operating at low capacity, they are outlaying a lot of cash in exchange for very little benefit (the benefit to Qantas being larger numbers of people choosing to fly them to enjoy the lounge). Qantas need lounges to operate at high capacity for them to make financial sense.

4. If they didn't offer more SCs to those members disproportionately affected by the travel restrictions, they would generate a lot of customer disengagement from those members. If, for example, a customer is unable to travel for 9 months of their FF year, for those remaining 3 months they may choose to fly BFOD if there were no hope of renewing status with Qantas. The whole point of boosting the SCs of those most affected is to try to keep them spending with Qantas when they do return to the sky.

There's no altruism at play here.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Yes you're right, we should never appreciate a gesture from a business. If they send you a bottle of wine, it's because you're a high value customer and they want you to remain so. If they smile at you, it's because the person smiling is paid by the business you paid to smile at you. It's all one big money making facade so don't get all excited that you're a few hundred SCs closer to your lifetime target with no money spent, because blah blah blah blah

This is a great gesture. I was worried about loosing my status early next year, but with this boost i should be able to retain it.

No kidding. The whole Qantas Frequent Flyer program is non-altruistic and is directed towards the objectives you outline in your various points, so that people fly with them, not the opposition and the company makes more money than it would otherwise.

In my case, as a serial critic of Qantas, I feel morally obligated to give them credit for the slightest gesture.

I am already a member of about 8 frequent flyer programs and have redemption opportunities in about 4 of them. I reckon many here would be a member of at least 1 or 2 overseas-based programs; I know QFF is a stingy program yet for various reasons it remains my primary one.

I agree with levelnine in principle.....

Yes, of course QFF is a business and we're the product for them to make money (yadda, yadda, yadda). We all know this.

BUT (the magic BUT :) )

in my view QF could have done a whole lot LESS for its members and.. frankly.. gotten away with it. Before the Status Boost and StatusKeeper came out few of us considered they would do this.. but they have. Yes of course it is in their interest to do it, but they've clearly understood things have changed since the status extensions given out in March, the less than ideal effect on some members and of course the fact that the situation has gone on (and looks like it will continue to) longer than probably anticipated even 4-5 months back.

Look at what other programs have given (so far). Some have done discounted status targets, some have given blanket extensions(most of them really as much as I can tell) and as time goes on more and more are seeing they will have to do more as the lack of travel opportunities continues.

And remember in QF's main marketplace, which is Australia domestic, the main competition is weakened and probably going to come back in a very different form.. which lessens the incentive for QF to do more than the bare minimum If VA was strong, there would be more going on in this space I suspect.

With all this in mind I personally still think QF has done more than most would expect. Obviously this is a very subjective view and many will have their own views possibly related to their own situation vis-a-vis status, travel and so on - which is normal and expected.

And for all of QF's MANY faults, inconsistency and all the rest we "love" to point out... honestly they noted in March they were constantly reviewing and would likely do more down the track.. and they've done just that. Indeed I would say since Olivia took charge QFF has probably been on a slightly better track than it has for some time (if it's her influence personally or not obviously I have no idea, and again just a view)..

Things could always be better of course and we as customers want as much as possible.. while QFF want to balance between giving members "Status Relief" as it were, their business model and desire for $$$ and responsibilities to mother QF.

For now I think they've done a pretty good job in such a crazy and unpredictable ever changing situation. YMMV

I'm all paid up now - 600SC boost + 200SC support.

Will get another 100SC in the next two months for Aug & Sep.

Pretty amazing, my SC balance is now 910SC, it was only double digits a week ago! (also had a JQ flight credit). Will retain platinum by Sep, was not expecting that!

Edging closer to Lifetime Silver but LTG still feels a long, long way away.
That's how I feel about LTP! I have 31,000 lifetime SC (including the gifted 600 from Qantas), but at my normal platinum earn rate, assuming that is even possible, I have about 35 more years to go to qualify - yeah, nah!

I don't know! I'm also 31 March year end/1 April reset and I got 600 and then today there were 4x 50 credits for April, May, June and July. So that's odd that he only got 1 x 50.
