UK mulls over changes for Hong Kong citizens

My hope is it will be wide enough for those youngsters who are young for a BNO but tough enough to screen pro-Beijing supports out.
Late reply... the British treason charge will be good to use for those that have BNO or British citizen now, and still support the CCP...

For certain police officers that are foreigners like Rupert Dover... torture charge awaits!

The Australian Federal Cabinet will consider some options for a better migration gateway for Hong Kongers.

Let's pray that the Cabinet will come up with a good Visa Sub-Class so that Hong Kongers will be able to escape to Australia well.

The only concern is that there has been a number of locally acquired cases of Coronavirus in Hong Kong, likely due to lack of testing, seems these cases come up every 20 days or so. With the National Security Law already in place and Coronavirus still haunting the world, I feel hopeless to see how we can evacuate people to Australia in the short term and it will be too late for some.

I agree the situation with Covid is making things worse.. especially the case numbers in Victoria is very scary...

According to the latest findings on Cell, it is known that the virus is now 3 - 9 times more easy to transmit to others, and some scientists argue that it can be transmitted via aerosol, which might explain why there are so many infections lately.

What we see is China is just wanting to use COVID to easily detain and arrest anti-Chinese protesters and then throw them to jail so everyone will listen and obey and be proud of being a Chinese.

I actually weeped last Wednesday when police in Hong Kong arrested protesters over National Security Law, the sudden way of taking away Hong Konger's freedom should act as a warning to the world that China cannot be trusted, because they will one day dishonour your national agreements just as how they betrayed Hong Kongers.

The HK police will arrest anyone they want, which is very disheartening to see, and I really like to see some support to save as many HK people as possible.. lets hope it is not too late!

Unfortunately there are so many of us, I mean human beings in general, are prepared to sell oneself, not to mention others or even the nation's interest, out for short-term and self-interests

Slightly off topic, but AU gov now issued formal advice in more careful words to the effect "Australians might be arrested on trumped up charges if you visit china." Strongest cautionary advise against China I can recall in my lifetime.

I must agree... some may say the $10,000 is hard earned money, but for those that lived overseas for a very long time, and not paid any taxes to HK government, they will sell their personal details to get that money is astonishing... (I don't mean those people that had contributed in taxes to HK government over the years - long term, but those that has 0 contribution for a very long time)

I am not surprised by this... especially Australia wanted a full inquiry on Covid!

It is quite apparent that we agree in principle. However, another perspective on whether to get the HK$10k (A$2k) is - who would benefit from that saved multiples of $10k? I bet the money would only be channelled to the fat cats and/or "loyalists (to their personal interest)" colluded with the corrupt SAR government

I think when governments gives out money like this to everyone in Hong Kong, we will going to see inflation happening because demand drives the prices of different products up.

Hong Kong is one of the most unequal society in the world financially and I am afraid this act will make things worse and ultimately there will be more protests in the future.

Today Hong Kong has recorded 14 new COVID cases, of which a number of them is actually community transmission. I wonder the government has already in up-side-down in terms of their priority. In Hong Kong, you need to pay A$400 to get tested, which in Australia it is free and is fully encouraged by every political leader. This has shown the frustration of Hong Kong citizens has boiled off and we need Australia to rescue us from danger.

Apparently Carrie Lam is a follower of Trump - "fewer tests fewer confirmed cases". She is likely a triple-spy (British/VChina/US) and should be disciplined in the (in)justice system of Communist China she embraces (on the surface)

The decision by the Australian Government to suspend the extradition treaty with Hong Kong must give the thousands of their citizens here some reassurance. Australia suspends Hong Kong extradition treaty, extends Hongkongers' visas after security law imposed

That'd beneficial to many students here who will fearful going back to Hong Kong may mean being randomly arrested by Hong Kong police. Moreover, I hope that as the borders remains closed, we will allow new students from Hong Kong to be benefited from this scheme that they will be able to stay in Australia for longer to avoid the evil country of China.

The issue with border closures... this will continue for a while within Australia to deal with Covid... but how do we allow HK students to enter Australia at the time of pandemic is an issue... and some people especially the mainlanders will say why allow HK students and NOT us! that is something we need to consider as well

The UK government has released the details for the residency visas for BNO passport holders.
From January all BNO passport holders and their immediate family ( including those without a BNO passport) are to be granted a residency visa which can lead to UK citizenship.

I think this scheme is a good thing for HK people, but I also believe this is the end of HK, as many people will leave under this scheme... Looking at the details, it is a very generous scheme, and easy to apply... Also I believe this is NOT the FINAL scheme, as I heard 1 commentator who is an expert, the FINAL solution is to issue British citizenship to HK people who were part of the British rule, and their descendants.

From what I hear in the UK though, this is also under threat and it may not happen. The Chinese conglomerate continues to exert its influence.....

The Chinese government can say or do what they like, but BNO is still an UK internal matter... doubt anything can stop them from this 5+1 scheme as secretary Pompeo was in UK couple of days ago and 1 of the topics of discussion is HK! And he made a policy speech today on China... how to fight against them... doubt what you are saying will become a reality
