There is some incredibly sad news today, and that is that Boeing has pulled the plug on the 747 program (as per Executive Traveller, link below).

My first flight on the Queen of the Skies was a flight from Chicago to Paris when I was about five years old, and this aircraft is probably the reason I became such a big avgeek. I'm sure this will be a sad day for many, particularly with the A380 program ending only weeks.

I know that these will continue to fly for a few more years yet, but it's the end of a truly amazing era.

Sad indeed. Without covid they may have been able to push on.

In normal times, would agree it as quite sad.

In the context of what's happening today, and the state of the airline industry, I am numb to such news, and what's surprising is that it didn't happen sooner. There are many casualties at the moment. The 747 has had a good run.

And the A380 has barely managed to get off the ground, bye bye Super Jumbos

I think we all know that this day was coming.

True, although it doesn't mean we have to like it.
Personally I just wish that QFF had purchased some B748i's, but it was not and now will never be.

For the last 13 or so years, I've been waiting for this to happen, thus I've flown B747 whenever the opportunity arose. I always felt that I'd have lots of A380 time when the B747's where retired. Didn't expect that they would also leave the worlds fleets at about the same time.
