"Essential workers" which evidently fruit pickers qualify as are not tested when crossing borders. State borders are crossed by many every day despite all the rhetoric

Indeed.. the border leaks like a sieve .. not good at all , waiting for a call back from the post potus employment agency..

Most folks probably don't realise this so we need to spread the word among the voting multitudes….at least here in PERfection territory,

They need to be as those strawberries picked by one idiot will have cost probably tens of millions of dollars and many weeks, if not months, of extra hardship and misery to probably hundreds of thousands of workers/people as border controls will now drag on.
they are an idiot for catching Covid? Did they followthe border / entry rules or brake them? (I haven’t seen any news coverage of this)

For catching Covid 19 ? No. Anyone can catch it.

a) He failed to declare that he had been living with a person diagnosed with Covid 19.

A COVID-19 positive Melbourne man who flew to Brisbane then on to Bundaberg, failed to declare he had been living with a person diagnosed with coronavirus, and partied with family along the way.

and b) did he follow all of:

Agribusiness and commercial fishing employees Any person who is an agribusiness or commercial fishing employee or contractor:
  1. whose employer has a health management plan in accordance with the Seasonal Workers Health Management Plans Direction or its successor; and
  2. who provides the following information upon arrival in Queensland:
    1. a letter of employment; and
    2. details of the person’s accommodation in Queensland; and
    3. evidence of each place the person has worked and stayed in the 14 days prior to the person’s arrival in Queensland; and
    4. if the person has been in a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days, and must self-quarantine upon arrival under paragraph 8, details of where the person will self-quarantine in Queensland; and
    5. if the person has not been in a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days, evidence, if required, that they are entering Queensland to go directly to work.

On 5. "The man, who is in his 20s, then flew from Melbourne to Brisbane and socialised with up to 15 family and friends on the city’s southside before travelling onto Bundaberg on a Virgin flight.

Is attending a party going directly to work?

Was he asked was he going directly to work? And if so, did he advise that this included attending a large social gathering?

I know several essential workers who go interstate and they are not allowed by their employers to socialise with others.

On 4. This would apply if he had been been in any of the declared hotspots in the last 14 days. (Moorabool Shire or (Wyndam City or Melton City). He may not have.

According to dhhs he is linked to a confirmed case from the Rydges hotel outbreak but was not disclosed as a close contact so was not in Quarantine

At the time of the Rydges cluster I had a strong suspicion that all was not as it should be. It just seemed very odd that so many workers who were meant to be wearing PPE and following control measures became infected.

Now one of that cluster failed to tell the contact tracers that the fruit picker was living at their dwelling. I do not see how one can "forget" about someone living at the same dwelling. So if he actively avoided or lied about who was at his dwelling, what did he not say, or wrongly say, about what occurred at the Rydges?

PS: In Victoria all cases that are isolated are checked on once per day by police. So this also tends to show continued active covering up.

Is a party of 15 even allowed? What kind of party was it?

As of 1 June in Qld gatherings of up to 20 people were allowed including in homes.

However anyone who knew that they had been living with a positive case should have been self-isolating.

Well Vic back to zero new cases today.

In recent times most of the new cases in Vic have been returned travellers. These really should be reported in a different category. So excluding the returned travellers there have been very few new cases.

The fruit picker in Qld was linked to the Rydges cluster.

Of yesterday's 2 cases one was'a returned traveller and one was a resident Hawthorn Village in Bright, which is quite remote from Melbourne (3.5 hr drive) and most other cases. Source of the infection is not yet known. Source of infection would have been pre-LWE, though is not yet known how long they have had it. This new case yesterday is certainly quite a random case and outlier case.

The facility has 25 residents all now being isolated. So today's zero tests is hopefully good news there. The resident was presumably asymptomatic as was a only detected when they went to a hospital for treatment of an unrelated condition.

Totally agree with changing the reporting methods now - and continuing to tell us there are 7xx_ cases isn't really adding much insight. We need to report community transmission numbers separately and these are a much bigger deal than hotel quarantine. I am a bit concerned that hotel quarantine doesn't seem long enough - perhaps now we can add 1 week of home isolation on at the end to reduce the risk further as well as mandatory testing.

It's incredibly frustrating the way Victoria's statistics are presented to us in SA and the numpties then bang on about uncontrolled infections in the Eastern States and demand the borders stay closed. Which of course, is exactly where the State Govt wants us, despite being the only Govt in SA to grant consent to the demonstration. Their excuse today being that if they hadn't granted permission, it would have been held anyway and likely violent. Without dismissing the validity of the demonstration at all - quite clearly the message is that unless you threaten to create havoc then restrictions are in place. Our zoos and churches are still closed due to restrictions. What a pathetic bunch we've become.

And the organisers of the BLM protests are seeking further exemptions so that there can be protests in Adelaide every week. If that gets the nod it’s time for us to rise up and do as we please

I agree that the quaratine cases are irrelevant. Though I curious how given that NZ has a population 20% of Oz and that they travel internationally just as much as Australians, if not more, how they are no longer seeming to have any imported cases being reported (ie quarantine cases) as the last such case was some weeks ago now, when in Australia there is virtually a hotel quarantine case each day somewhere in Australia , and often multiples. So you would expect several such cases per week in NZ too, if not more.

Imported cases: Cases with a reported history of international travel within 14 days of onset

Perhaps it is that they are now only returning via Oz, getting quarantined here and so therefore miss becoming a case when they land in NZ?

The papers on this (duration) including the Singaporean one recently posted by Princess Fiona, have all indicated that the viral load is highest early on in the illness and that by 14 days it is unlikely to be high enough to infect. This likely is why worldwide that the 14 day period decided on by most countries for the quarantine period has been used and has not been extended except when people are symptomatic), and that if people are not symptomatic that they are released. Note that this does not mean that people do not not test positive after 14 days, as they do and this can be lengthy periods. It is just that they do not have viral loads great enough to infect other people. For example young children are thought to only develop low viral loads and child to another person transmission seems to be extremely rare.

Not knowing how it is reported in SA but the new cases in all of WA, NSW and Vic of late have all been dominated by international travellers/ships crews.

ie the 2 cases in NSW today are both returned overseas travellers.

Did you hear the Police Commissioners comment on the Radio today? I swear, everyone listening to it would have become instant anarchists.

They want change. What exactly does that look like in SA?

That is fantastic. But all we get told is 2 more positive cases. We must stop reporting these per state but as a National Immigration statistic. And even Sky News isn't reporting these correctly.

I've heard this secondhand, so apologies if it's not true and I'm spreading misinformation. But what I was told is...

NZ apparently went harder earlier on their repatriation messaging and Govt support for repatriating the Kiwi diaspora. More flights earlier to get people home prior to their big lockdown. Very few options to fly back direct to NZ now in comparison to Australia (which is obviously still very limited). Of the options that do exist involving transit, most will require some quarantine along the way anyway. Eg, may not be able to get directly to AKL but can get on a flight to SYD. Will do so, sit out quarantine in Australia and then find an option home. By the time they get to NZ, even if they were infectious they aren't any more.

Just to emphasise this point, In the last 11 (maybe even 12) days NSW has only had 1 case that has not been a returned overseas traveller in hotel quarantine. Yet AP in Queensland goes on about NSW as if the virus is spreading like wildfire here. She seems so determined to keep the border closed I am wondering if she will campaign in the upcoming election to keep it closed for '4 more years.' :)

The case in Bright makes me wonder if it is similar to earlier cases in Nursing Homes in Melbourne. Two residents tests were “inconclusive” so listed as positive. Both cases then tested negative within days.
