Orbital Mechanics - and Similar Travel Methods

It’s 50 years since I was doing high school maths and physics. I kept my son’s school books for these subjects, and I’m working my way through the maths at the moment. It’s interesting that some of the methods being used, don’t ring any bells for me at all. It certainly passes some lockdown time, though my homework is a few decades late.

if its any consolation jb, i am having the same issue LOL.

i didn't do overly well in YR 11 and 12 Maths and Physics, so i have decided to go back to the beginning of the maths story - the old 1+1 = 2 and then go from there.

i am hoping i can zoom through the early bits quite quickly, then slow down towards about YR 9 and 10 equivalent, and then God knows where from there.

yes, it'll be a good way to pass the time.

I got up this morning to watch the historic SpaceX launch, but unfortunately it got scrubbed due to weather at T minus 17 minutes.

This would have been the first manned launch from US soil since the shuttle retired in 2001. Also the first astronauts put into orbit by a private company, and the first US capsule launch and recovery of astronauts since Apollo in the 1970’s.

Next launch window is on Saturday.

The rescheduled launch went off without a hitch this morning AU time.

They hit low earth orbit in an impressive 9 minutes after launch, and now they are in their 19 hour "chase" to rendezvous with the International Space Station.

During the chase they will do some tests of the crew dragon's attitude control systems, performing a range of test manouvers.

First stage booster successfully landed too.
