Looks like we'll be bucking the COVID trend by spending money.... on a second car.

We're both still very lucky to have jobs, which means the kids are still going to school/daycare.

Even with MrsGM working from home, and my ability to get a roster change, it's too hard for us to be in so many places at once, with just the one vehicle. And she doesn't want me getting public transport anymore, which I can't argue with.

Not the ideal scenario, but it is what it is.

No @GarrettM
Have you spotted anything that is for sale and are you a mechanical whizz ?

I've got a few leads on some apparently decent options. Mechanically I'm fairly limited, but I can manage a few things. I do have mechanical mates though.
i30's can be surprising with their factory standard bells and whistles ... but in any reasonable condition they go for 4k.

2k is tough.

I want a new i30 to be honest. Fantastic cars.

In any case.... the job is done.

Cheap car acquired.

Looking good and living the dream......and is that baby GM being held by MrsGM?

Mission accomplished and no guitars sacrificed. Well done.

My sweet new ride... 2001 Ford Laser.
Living the dream.
I have a 1999 KN Laser that is still going strong with 350,000 kms on it and never a problem. I've kept on to it as it's cheap as chips to run and with the roof racks it can carry anything home from Bunnings on the weekend. The only thing you need to spend a few dollars on, is the sound system.

Actually someone put in a more modern stereo, which you'd think would be useful.
Bluetooth, USB connectivity, even an SD card slot.

Except the LED display is ratshit, and it doesn't get AM, which is kind of a big deal for me.

You can simulate AM very cost-effectively by attaching one end of a 50cm-long piece of rope to a stick, and the other half of that rope to your rear bumper. Alan Jones only talks while you're moving, so it's not great if you're in traffic jams.

I tried looking on Kogan for this product, but it seems they're out of stock.
