I have a friend who held back saying 'I taste kero' for fear of being seen as foolish.
When she did finally blurt it out, I said 'Paula, you're a Riesling super taster. Kero is an acknowledged flavour in the profile, only detected by some - ie. the elite.' Pleased as punch, and never held back on what she thinks about wine since.![]()
We love spicy food and usually drink beer with it but some wine verities can also match well.
Viognier is one of my favourites and to continue with last night’s theme I chose one from Barossa.

What’s your wine choice to go with spicy food?
Not being a huge white wine lover, don't mind a reasonable Grenache with spicy food.We love spicy food and usually drink beer with it but some wine verities can also match well.

Unfortunately you’ll need much more than that to get through The Irishman. Alcoholic induced stupor is highly recommended. One regains conscious every 20 minutes but really nothing has happened.Something to drink while watching The Irishman. The wine is finished...the movie is still going...

Off dry Riesling like a Spatlese. A Gewurtz is a good match too.

Last night, at @Daver6's suggestion, our tasting group had its first virtual tasting, using Zoom.

Fantastic idea, how did you structure this to keep everyone involved?
