All International Arrivals into Australia to self isolate for 14 days

Was in Mustafa’s Singapore this afternoon (24hr Dept store) and walking past the toilet paper shelves and overheard some other Australians stocking up on items (including of course toilet paper) for their 14 days when they get back home. (Comment was “make sure you get enough toilet paper for 14 days”). 😁

No, but can you work from home?

Not sure, right now it's chaos within the company, no one knows exactly what's the plan for employees like us which are caught by the latest restriction.

On a different note, what should I buy from Wellington to bring back to Melbourne? I haven't had a chance to buy much in Melbourne yet, do I need to really bring back toilet papers and face masks from Wellington?

That’s a pity, all my employers have been stress testing pretty brutal scenarios since early Feb. I doubt half of them will happen but the (pretty much) border shut down was planned for thankfully.

I just hope they won't compel us to take annual leave during the self quarantine, I assume they are allowed to do that right?

So we've basically banned international travel into Australia, and yet we still allow travel from Australia. Surely if it's that bad we should just stop all international travel.

I feel so sorry for all those tourists flying into Australia in the next few days. Expensive holidays ruined.
Great to see you frogger! :)

...

As far as the mythical Jo Bloggs I suspect Joe doesn't have several trips booked.
I had lunch with such a Joe Bloggs. He had a JQ flight booked to Bali today but yesterday chose to move it to October. Had to pay the change fee and fare difference - no waiver. He wasn't happy about the expense, but cheaper than losing the lot.

The airlines can by cancelling flights (as AA has just done).
If I were an Aussie overseas or a tourist in Aus, I'd be wanting to fly in the next week.

AA announcement a few hours ago (may change further with Aus /NZ restrictions)

Thanks for posting that. I had a notification last night that my AA flight to DUB has been cancelled and no alternate offered. Could be stuck on New Orleans for a while (no fun with everything shutting down) until my T/A can arrange something magical. Best option may be to cancel the balance of my DONE4 and reverse direction, since going on via Europe seems to be nigh on impossible.

If there is no suitable work that can be done from home, I would guess that it’s probably paid leave (or unpaid, if insufficient leave credit balance) or if actually sick, then sick leave may be appropriate.

AA still looks to have MIA/DFW-LHR if you want out.

As for Australia, this was posted on the airliners.net Melbourne thread

Already hearing word of following:
CX, Down to daily, likey 2 weekly
EK, likely down to 777 daily, likely less

Just wondering, within the 14 days are you allowed to return via private vehicle to the airport and depart Australia again, or must you stay for 14 days? (reason for asking, we had plans to travel back from SIN to AU to got to our holiday home for some maintenance, gardening etc, would be OK to work from home and stay for 14 days, but if Singapore added Australia to their "Stay At Home Notice" we would want to try to cut short and be back in SG before that came into effect).

Not unless you have a private terminal at the airport. Once you are here you are stuck at home.

Here is the first ”What If” question.
What if I arrive tomorrow morning into Melbourne and am by myself and don’t know anyone in Melbourne, not a soul, I have arranged a cabin in a caravan park for fourteen days, and have told them the fact that I have been overseas and need to self isolate. They responded that I would be doing my own cleaning and changes of bed linen, I can do that.
It has already been mentioned that I can use public transport to get where I am going, no problem there either.
But what happens when I get there, am I allowed to go to the shops for groceries? Is it permitted to go outside for a walk? Do I have to have a sign around my neck saying “Stay Clear”?
Can I get in my self isolation capsule, commonly called a car, buy a tent and some groceries and go bush for 14 days? Now there is a thought.
All these questions that visitors to Australia will have to deal with, now I am one of them.
The prime minister said this morning that if you know someone in self isolation make them a casserole, that is something he said and I am not turning this into a political thing.

Mr Morrison also said it is an offence to not adhere to self isolation and is asking for the public’s help to “dob” in anyone not doing the right thing. I would think people will be monitored more than normal by authorities

Self interest comes into play.

Well not really. Connecting flights from international terminals have to fly after arrival.

Would it be an offence given my circumstances, to get on a international flight and self isolate somewhere else?

You need to isolate in Australia. Nowhere else counts for our requirements. You can fly out of Australia but that won't count currently if you want to return.

Seriously, I am thinking of heading out for a month or so and have a better plan for the isolation thing later on, as 14 days in a cabin in a caravan park on my jack malone does not excite me one little bit.
