If you look at the graphs here and more detailed ones elsewhere China in particular had been decreasing in new cases very rapidly.

What has now occurred is that the cases outside of China has been accelerating and has now become dominant and so the gradient of total new cases is now steepening up again.
yes, That’s what doubling every four days looks like on a graph (the yellow line). It’s exponential growth, and it has been growing at the same exponential rate for weeks. constant rate of acceleration if you like. Use the logarithmic scale and it looks more like a straght line.

We are saying the same thing different ways I think

You should know by now that anything on here by the ABC is shot down immediately by a vociferous very few on here who treat everything on the ABC as a dangerous joke. If you can find something credible on Fox news or sky .... 😂

Thought I’d throw this in the mix for the people discussing the slow US response.
I’m not particularly interested so don’t bother attacking me - just sharing :)

Australia is being reactive not proactive. You can go to the movies, you can go where there’s 500 people, you can get on the train. All of this is under the banner of “at the moment”. But at the same time, the CMO says “at the moment” will change.
So why not change it now. Not closing the schools means that the children who are always good spreaders of viruses will do so, and then when it’s too late we will be reactive and close the schools with a raised effect on parents and whatever job they do.

And in fairness, I've been shot down when positing a news.com.au web link about stories that are true and the same as carried by the ABC. Go figure!

I think we are about to see a dramatic change in what is considered 'essential' and 'non-essential'.

There is a national meeting on today. I'd expect AFL to be shut down. I have no idea why they think removing spectators does any risk management for the players and the team support.

Exactly. And once one member of a team tests positive - means the rest of the team may have to go into isolation, or won't be able to fly to interstate fixtures. Perhaps they need a 'B' team in reserve?

Ah, Hillsong Church had a National meeting this weekend. But the plague won’t get them. tomorrow we start the 500 people meetings.
Considering they use to openly pray the gay away, Im sure they will do their best to pray the virus away as well...and dont forget your tithe

UK said to be considering compulsory self isolation for over 70s for at least 4 weeks and possibly for months.Definite last nail in the coffin of our UK trip.

You’ve hung on! We gave up on our May UK / Sicily trip when this thing was still only a Wuhan problem.

So many over 70s in society are already housebound, isolated and lonely that this will be really detrimental for their mental health. This sort of policy needs to be thought about very, very carefully.

OK Nostradamus.

I think removing spectators is all about reducing the overall risk of person to person transmission in the broader community, especially with crowds of up to 80,000 odd at some games.

...rather than removing spectators to prevent teams becoming infected.

In terms of team protection the team follow has fully separated players/coaches/trainers etc from all the club admin staff with no mixing. Fans are no longer allowed to attend training. Most likely other clubs will have down the same.

However if the rate of spread keeps increasing it would only be a matter of time before one player or coach becomes infected, and at that time the team would have to go into 14 day isolation. At that time if still running the competition would most probably be suspended.

Indeed. Organisations such as the NHS are already producing guidelines on how to keep isolated and vulnerable members of the community engaged during the situation. Who should visit, how to visit, how to have the conversation with elderly parents, how social and medical staff can maintain contact, etc.
