Connections to QF9

Has anyone done an international connection to QF9 in MEL?
First, does QF9 depart from MEL international so assume you can access QF F lounge prior?
Second, if you were connecting say from AKL, would you have to clear passport control, go out of the airport and see a local counter or could you do transit? Connection would be longer than 3 hrs prior to checkin with HLO so would want to go straight through ideally given MEL checkin limitations.

It operates from International so all good for the F lounge.

You can transit airside, no need to enter the country as far as I'm aware.

It would be treated as a normal non-US I-I transit booked as AKL-PER with an 'international' connection at MEL. Would be no different to doing AKL-SYD-SIN.
