Congrats to VA for its excellent partnership with SQ.

We (couple) are VA WP and SG, flew SQ Y and MI Y (purchased tickets direct with SQ) after Christmas, SYD/SIN/cough vv. Along with the usual benefits of priority checkin and boarding, and lounge access (very good SilverKris lounge in SYD, and the very good temp Gold lounge in SIN T3: Marhaba lounge with showers), we were also surprisingly given access to the third party lounge in cough (Earth Lounge). Good food at this lounge (compared to the very limited options in the terminal) but limited spirits. No gin, and only local whiskey. However, the whiskey, McDowell's, distilled in Bangalore, was actually pretty decent!

And we were upgraded to PE on both SYD/SIN and SIN/SYD. Now that was completely unexpected.

It's likely Economy was oversold and they were bumping up passengers which is done on status.

That is pretty funny to read for me anyway. We were in India and Nepal over Xmas/New Year and I bought some bottles of Gin, Vodka and McDowells BOXED Scotch which stated they were bottled in NEPAL.

Price downtown KTM retail was $A10 a bottle and we had a ton of Nepal Rupees so bought it for friends as a laugh and wondered what on earth it tasted like. :D

Buying this stuff at airport after bags checked thru us suicide these days as we flew home via Chengdu China, and security would have grabbed them for sure.

Good thing we bought downtown as the near non existent KTM Duty Free only had Johnny Walker etc at higher prices than here.
