Urgent help needed only 2 months left on passport

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not being critical of you or your DIL. I’m trying to work out whether or not there is actually a 3 month requirement, for others who might be in the same situation.

I’m not sure we’ve been able to answer that.

I suspect the emirates check in agent erred. There is nothing to stop your DIL travelling on a two month passport into Germany. The only thing stopping her flying would be the transit requirements in UAE. And Emirates can’t overrule that - although they can accept the risk that they’d get fined if caught.

So either EK accepted the risk, or UAE doesn’t have a 3 month requirement.

@MEL_Traveller going back to your post #2 and from what I have read it is a minimum of 3 months left on a passport to transit through UAE. Thats what I was initially concerned about the night that all this drama transpired. Fortunately it was still daytime in Germany so they could get copies etc.

I am thinking that Emirates decided to accept the risk. Maybe because of the support my DIL had from the German consulate, I don't think we will ever find out, but we are glad for the outcome.

That's right. But several of us think that's only for a transit visa where entry into the UAE is needed. AFAIK there's no transit visa required for air-side connecting passengers EK to EK. There is connecting security and from memory they do look at your passport but that's probably an ID check. It's not passport control.

In any event your DIL was allowed to do the connection in Dubai. And those staff don't work for Emirates. I doubt Emirates would risk it if it wasn't allowed.

Yes I agree @Pushka our kids are very clever both have masters degrees and have very responsible jobs. DIL speaks 5 languages fluently and they are great young people but they were just so busy with work commitments that they forget to look after their own personal stuff. ....

Happy it worked out in the end for your kids, sometimes it does due to the good will of people like it seems to in this case.:)

I don't mean this as a personal criticism, but as a general statement I just had to say I really can't stand that line ... "too busy with work" It is so overused. I've heard retirees complain they were too busy... good grief ... it's just filling in a form and sending it to the consulate.
