I love the Magnolia Blanc and have purchased it a few times, It’s the the first time I have tried the rest of the range and they too were impressive. I left with some Grenache and Shiraz

Just received a Qantas wine gift pack from a friend and this was in it - has anyone tried this - I have never seen a wine with a cap like that. I don't like sweet wine and I don't like sparking so I may just open it for friends one night

Dal zotto don't make a bad wine though I haven't tried that one.

Friday and then Sat night. Very nice wines. The Filsell will make a great 10yr old wine. Eldorado will go the distance but makes great for drinking now so I don't think I'll have any left in 2025 (prob should have bought a few cases)

I am going with a Moet, a Diana and a Chalambar this afternoon. Mrscove is our driver as she drinks ice water.
 
A nice wine (the Rockford) from Buzz’s cellar to finish the weekend off. Haven’t actually had any of it yet but I’m confident it will be nice.

nothing really stood out for me on the little McLaren Vale tour @Buzzard and @penegal did today. A few of the top end Molly Dooker and 2 of the Samuel’s Gorge were to my taste but all a little on the high side price wise imo.

The velvet glove isn’t cheap! And the enchanted path is nice but a little pricey
 
And it actually wasn’t one of the QW 22.5 buckers - I actually have some in the cellar - look closely and you will note the Pommery glasses which we bought when we toured Pommery Champagne house a few years back:

FTR: The 20 x 6 packs Pommery have all been placed with fellow AFFers, family and friends - bar 3 packs still waiting to be collected.

A nice wine in the lighter style. I'd say that's a nod to Bordeaux and John's view that Margaret River was suited to Bordeaux-style reds.

John was a lecturer/supervisor of mine in my final undergrad year at UWA in 1970, which was only five years after his article in the (then) Journal of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science suggesting that the Margaret River region (then an impoverished soldier-settler-type small-scale dairy region staring down ultimate economic collapse) was climatically similar to Bordeaux and was therefore a prospect for the production of quality wine.

By 1970, Tom Cullity, a Perth cardiac specialist, had already established Vasse Felix and others were quickly following (Cullen etc.). They were in their earliest infancy then - but the rest is history...

Contrary to what most people may think - and what that back label conveys - John was not a viticulturalist as such. He was a plant breeder/agronomist, specialising in breeding 'sweet' (ie. edible seeds) and seed-pod shatter-resistant (ie. so they could be harvested mechanically) lupin ( a legume) cultivars for use in nitrogen fixation in the highly N-deficient sandy soils of the then opening-up northern sandplains south of Geraldton, in wheat-growing rotations. They were the days before urea and Flexi-N.

Wine appreciation - and climatology related to wine production - were actually his hobbies. He was able to integrate his agricultural science knowledge into his personal wine passion. Ultimately, of course, he became most famous for what flowed out of that.

A great legacy for a very modest and very gentle man.

this probably needs abit of air time, but how was it?

Would certainly have benefited from a four plus hour decant. It was decanted and swirled. plenty in the glass. Was in really good condition. Bright red fruits, violets, rose and hints of tar with earthy undertones. Plenty of acid and big tannins still. Long finish. Still a baby!
