Hi
Sorry if this is elsewhere I have searched all over ( maybe I am thick !) I know I have seen posts about this since the new redemption rules came in ??
Planning on leaving approx saturday 3/10/20 ( 4 pax in J ) so the opportunity doesnt open until 15/10/19. However I have been viewing what is avail in 353 days over the past few weeks .A few weeks ago a lot of options were via DBX - now NIL are they are all via SIN or HKG - not a bad thing but is there a major shift for QF to ditch DBX or just for redemptions ? or day of the week ? ( I am WP) and if i booked today for 20/9 i can get 4 via sydney which is great - and on that the only option is for a 1h 15min gap between domestic and international departure ??

I'm a little lost by your post but with respect to a 75 minute connection, if the website sells it to you, you're good to go and will be protected if things go astray.

Availabilities come and go. If you can get 4 in J any way, grab them.

I'm always worried about when people say you will be 'protected' in case of a missed connection. That just means the airline will re accommodate you on the next available flight with seats in the same fare class. I doubt the would be 4 Businesses award seats on the same flight for about 6 months ...

I wouldn't take that connection in Sydney under your ticket conditions and number.
Call Qantas to see if you can get the Domestic leg the day before and stay overnight in Sydney. Else Put the domestic Leg on a separate ticket and again, fly the previous day.

2 parts - first part - all FF point redemptions appear to have disapeared from sept 20 onwards - was wondering if this was permanent and a shift back to kangaroo route
2nd part was short connection but given it is DLS time is has corrected to 2 1/4 hours now , cheers

Not to hijack this thread, but I’ve had the same experience.

Trying to book my mother in law a ticket to Berlin for Sep 2020. All I could find was QF to HKG then BA to LHR-TXL.

I had an error booking, so when I called the premium number, she offered to try find a better routing, she thought it was strange there were no flights at all via DXB, even for the date that most recently should have become available.

She didn’t have an answer why but suspected there must be something going on...

re "protection" with cases like this the protection may only be that they will put you on a flight 24h later or on another routing that could still get you in a loing time later. The thing is if messing with separate PNR's with NO protection - if you miss that flight because of the inbound you're in a much MUCh worse position with (likely) a cancelled ticket due to no show and then having to find space again (awards at short notice unlikely) and at the mercy of the carrier(s) for fees, charges etc..

I actually gambled with this one about 18 months ago - a QF F reward to LAX with a h connection to a UA revenue ticket. As only QF can they managed a well over 3h technical delay and our aircraft landed at LAX pretty much as my UA flight was leaving the gate. I figured I was pretty much out of luck and on initial phone call (made as we were moving to the gate) the UA phone agent basically told me forget it and wanted to sell me a new full Y ticket for another flight... luckily (or not) the call cut out so I thought screw it, cleared CBP and all that and went right to UA check in. The agent there couldn't have been more wonderful. I expressed I'd missed my flight (by this time it was just on an hour post) and while I knew about UA's "flat tyre" rule (if you're within 2h of a departure UA will try and get you there on standby) I did not expect a smile, a "don't worry we'll get you there" response from the agent (this is before she opened my PNR or saw my elite status btw-and that obviously helped a great deal).. she had me a confirmed seat 3h later with no charge, no issues and a smile. Many airlines do not have such a rule or agents willing to be so helpful (imagine it was a connection to a LCC like JQ or WN?)... I consider myself VERY lucky in the above example and that was with an overly long connection factored in.

Point being that single PNR journeys with short connections and/or multiple carriers are going to be far more helpful in the case of an airline caused delay such as missing a connection at SYD due to MCT. The reaccom may be less than ideal, but it would likely be far less painful than dealing with cancelled tickets and the like.

a 75min connection IS possible but far from ideal. I certainly would never book such a thing just because there are so many things that can go wrong.. I mean you have to deal with a transfer between terminals (bus or train), getting through departures, smartgate, security etc but it could be done in a real pinch. It it was me I would have 2h as a minimum and longer if I wanted some decent lounge time.

Good luck with getting 4 J seats to LHR ....

Start of School Holidays in QLD & VIC.

EK flights only open at 330 days: won't show past 3/9/20.

However even then availability sucked . I suspect Qantas is avoiding EK redemption under the new reward T&C . GOOD NEWS is 4 pax in J is available on QF1 and 2 quite easliy now

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
