Has anyone had a go in the Gold Coast flight simulator located in the base of the Q1 building?

737 Flight Simulator

I had a brief look at the reception area. Simulation is based on the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.

Does anyone know is it still possible to book real simulators for corporate days?

I've walked past the Simulator at Q1 many times, and enquired about it, but as an airline enthusiast, the fact it has no motion aside from that imposed by the screen movement puts me off a bit and leaves me waiting until I can partake in a "proper" simulator.

I also read a review last week which stated its graphics were "just okay" so nothing sensational.

I believe there's another simulator just north of there on the Gold Coast Hwy, though it may be the same one has just relocated.

I'd love a "trip report" on the Ansett Sim though, sounds awesome

At a visit many years ago I saw someone fly the 767 through the Rialto Towers at the ansett sims, seems to have more significance now than it did at the time!

Also had the pleasure of seeing a pilot do his first circuit in a 747 in real life after many hours in a simulator, interestingly he did a better job than the ex speedbird captain getting type currency back on his licence

Visited the MEL Ansett Flight Simulator Centre tonight.

Awesome place.

They currently have 11 simulators and evidently it is the largest sim centre in the Southern Hemisphere. Three were being used by Commercial Pilots while we were there for the six-monthly rating includinga Virgin Crew anda PNG Crew.

The sims cover a range of planes from smaller ones that the Royal Flying Doctors use through to the Regional Airlines in Rex etc up to Tiger and Jetstar.

Their latest for the A320 was pretty awesome and the graphics quite stunning.

The "pilot" a technician took us on a stunning flight over and literally through Melbourne as we flew between the skyscpapers!!!! Did some tight banks over the MCG and Docklands.

Then off in another older sim with an even more gung ho "technician" pilot where on take off we flew through the control tower.....and then up and away to be put through a dizyzing array of barrel rolls and other stunts..I am still dizzy two hours later as I type this!!!!

Luckilly I got to walk away from two crashes....one after a barrel roll where we clipped the ground.......and another unsuccessful landing (undercarriage not put down!!!).

Was great fun :cool::cool: :D

Will you earn Global Rewards points for the flight?

No but I scored an Ansett cap, lanyard and pen...all emblazoned with the Ansett logo :)

I did think about taking along my old Global Rewards Platinum Card ;) and I still have some unused GW lounge guess passes.....

ROFL! If I hear one more story about how someone lost 800,000 points I think I will scream..

I was one of the lucky ones...redeemed 500K of points for 5 seats to Cairo and back just two weeks before Ansett went under...and luckier still on SQ who then honoured the flights despite not flying till Xmas (which was just after 9/11!!! and had to use or lose the flights. still turned out amazing as Egypt and Jordan were bare of Westerners and so my family of 5 had the run of the place and were treated like royalty wherever we went)

Star alliance also honoured my Platinum/ diamond status...but only till Dec 31. So had lounge access on the way out....but not on the way back..except that in Cairo the lounge was not high tech and so they still let me in In Dubai the dragons swiped my card.....and would not let me in :(
