Transiting at BNE

For Justinbrett, we can only wait and see...
Yair, they might combine PER/BNE (int and dom), like ADL and MEL Tulla.
Might also be the same at the new SYD Badgerys Creek, ...
But if they don't join the terminals, I will remember this convo in 10 years time, if we are still around by then

Largely because of the different standards we have between domestic and international. This won’t be the case forever, from what I’ve heard we will see an alignment of these gradually over the next decade as we look to combine domestic and international flights from single terminals.

The airside buses in LAX and many other airports don’t make you clear security more than once, we’re one of a minority of countries that has differing security standards.

I certainly hope not, liquid (non) constraints for Australian domestic passengers is one of the reasons I can travel to party with HLO.

Regards,

BD

You left out the most likely example, Sydney T3, which has already been raised by both Sydney Airport and Qantas.

Plenty of people in Europe and the US manage with the restrictions.

Plenty of people in Europe and the US manage with all sorts of stuff we're fortunate in not having to.
Doesn't mean we should always try to emulate them.

The flip side is that at most of the major hubs of Europe and the US you don’t have to change terminals. So that’s something we have to manage that they’re fortunate not having to. How essential is it to pack liquids into your carryon? I don’t think it’s a big deal. People just don’t like change.

I paid $35, yep, and thats Aud from SYD T3 to SYDT1, early one morning, had to ring up the taxi phone number, as there were no cabs to be seen at 5am, just had walked from the Ibisbudget at SYD dom, thinking there would be cabs that early outside T3, but none in sight.
So I had to pay pay phone booking fee, and also airport taxi charges, for 4.5 to 5km ride, $$$.
For next time you can book a one way trip for $11.00 with Redy2Go | Sydney Airport Shuttle from $11 - Cheaper than Train

Because major Australian airports don't exist for passenger convenience. They exist to make profits.

The only airports in the world (IME) where you have to pay to move from one part of the airport to another to continue your journey.

No way can you make it from QF dom doors at Bne arrivals to train in 4 mins, even running marathon speed.
Hlo also in consideration.
Run up first escalators, run on flat walkway, run up 2nd set of escalators, gave a QR tix scanned by person, 6.75 mins, maybe...
I will certainly yield to your experience on this and do appreciate taking a 'conservative' approach in regards to time estimates when giving advice.
Admittedly I didn't factor in time spent waiting for the lift for those with luggage who wouldn't use the escalators either.

I still think the walk from the Dom terminal doors kerbside to the railway station platform can be made in under 5mins - although I haven't attempted it myself in over 3 years now.
I'll bring a stopwatch with me next time I am in Brisbane!

You haven't seen my cellar ... and you're right, I'm not planning on changing that to the nearest Liqorland anytime soon!

So.... not essential.

When connecting from a DOM to and INT flight at BNE, if there is no airside bus between the terminals, then is catching the train from Domestic station to International station an option?
I assume the cost would be similar to a taxi and just as quick if you are aware of the train's departure time before leaving the domestic terminal?
Airrain is also fine but you're always in the lap of the Gods as regards to the arrival time.

Note you may also be able to use the AirPark bus between terminals if in a hurry and there's also the Staff bus that may require some sweet talking.

Not essential to have liquids in carryon but means I can bring my own water/soft drink along rather than paying through the nose inside the terminal.

The real solution would be to remove the silly liquid and gel restrictions from all flights not add the restrictions to domestic as well.

...And overseas it's pretty common to have water stations to refill your water bottle.

To the OP, have followed this thread out of interest. I just want to know how you went? Was the transit this week?

SYD-BNE was late by 10 mins because of something like 50k headwind... transit bus was ok. missed one the other one came about 5 mins later. express path was a life saver at BNE security, the normal line was a complete mess and ridiculously long, it backed up all the way almost up the elevator of the departure floor.

By the time i got to TRS it was 8.45, but the line at TRS was atrocious with about 20 people in line but only one staff processing. By some miracle got the claims done by 9.20. Missed a call from QF as i was sprinting for the gate. Came across staff in the gate area who radioed ahead so i know i was safe then. Got onboard 9.25 for a eventual 9.40(?) departure. In other words, uneventful and no, not doing this ever again!

I realise the OP has already travelled however for others with a tight connection in BNE - ask in SYD or whatever your point of origin is about being transferred to an earlier flight. Note that you would lose any special meal requests.

If you want to be moved to an 0600 flight ex SYD then checkin by 0515 at the very latest to give yourself a 15 min buffer before luggage acceptance closes.

To get from the domestic to international terminal in BNE either take the 'Terminal Transfer' bus or 'Airpark'. If you get on the Airpark bus don't tell the driver you're getting off at the international terminal as they'll tell you to take the Terminal Transfer bus instead. It will still stop on level 4 departures at BIT so just get off there. The Airpark bus operates in a circle from Airpark - Domestic Terminal stops 1 & 2 - International Terminal - Airpark. It is the only free option of getting between terminals after hour eg 2300-0500 ish when the Terminal Transfer Bus doesn't operate.

Airrain is also fine but you're always in the lap of the Gods as regards to the arrival time.

If you take the staff bus from BNE Domestic you'll end up at the staff car park as it doesn't go via BIT. There's a dedicated staff bus from BIT to the staff car park.
