Property: Hilton Adelaide
Booked: King Deluxe Room
Received: King Executive Room
Status: Gold
Rate: $215 per night x 2 ($190 per night after Amex $50 discount)

Although an older property/rooms, service was great from the get go. Upgrade to executive room/floor and allowed to check-in at 11am without issue. Also no probs getting a 2pm check-out time on the last day.

Executive lounge was always pretty quiet when there, decent food choices at night, but pretty terrible/cheap wine. Overall, impressed with the experience, with customer service being top notch!

Property: Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi, 2 nights
Booked: Lowest possible ($66 USD)
Received: 1 bedroom suite with living room, lowest floor
Benefits: 2 bottles water, 2 drink vouchers per night
Status: Diamond

As mentioned in latest TR (Vietnam and USA; what could possibly go wrong?) Hilton were great at changing my non-changeable, non-refundable rate when I couldn't make it due to illness. So kudos to them!

As usual, self serve laundry available ($2). The pantry has fairly reasonably priced food (15000VND for pot of noodles) but forget about the drinks (70000VND for a hanoi beer). There's a minimart about 2min walk away. Suite upgrade is great, it's on the lowest floor but still pretty quiet, has a balcony.

Breakfast pretty darn good; pho and egg station made to order. Lots of dim sum type stuff, pretty good selection of dried fish / spring rolls etc too with all the usual western foods. Coffee dreadful.

My wife and I stayed here this past weekend to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary, our first stay at this hotel. The reservation staff knew it was out wedding anniversary and had obviously passed the message on to the hotel staff.

We arrived quite early on Saturday morning and the room was not yet ready so we left our bags with the concierge whilst we had a look around the city. Shortly after we received a text message saying that the room was ready.

When we returned, we were given our passes and 2 bottles of water as well as 2 still warm cookies. Our bags had already been taken up to our room and there was a bottle of Yarra Valley Shiraz, along with a box of chocolates, 2 free drink vouchers to be used in their Platform 270 bar / restaurant and a welcome card congratulating us on or anniversary and another 2 bottles of water.

Shortly after, another staff member came with another 2 bottles of water and 2 more packaged cookies!

The following morning, we visited the Platform 270 restaurant down stairs for our continental breakfast and were offered an upgrade to full breakfast for an additional $10 each, which we took up. The food was of good quality and we were even able to choose how we'd like our eggs prepared.20190803_170921.jpg

Property: Hilton Garden Inn Las Vegas City Centre
Booked: Lowest possible ($120 USD) 2 queen beds (for some reason 1 king was way more expensive)
Received: As booked
Benefits: 2 bottles water - unsure if everyone gets that anyway .... I mean, the stuff comes out of the tap for free.
Status: Diamond

Literally not a word of recognition of status. At check in they said 'we see you booked 2 queens' and I said any bed config was fine; he looked confused and just gave me keys. The next day asked about late checkout, they made a great song and dance and said they were happy to give me til 1pm (normal checkout is midday). Gee thanks. Rooms were very nice, though ours was on a low floor with a view of a dusty vacant lot.

There is a shuttle that runs every half hour to either Aria or some other casino. But the strip is a 5 min walk so never bothered. Breakfast was provided as a diamond benefit but we were still 'encouraged' to tip. There is an egg station and the usual assortment of western-type foods. Coffee terrible as expected. No kettle in room. Tea and coffee were provided with one of those pod machines but the sheer amount of plastic in one of those tea pods was INSANE (along with the plastic wrapped disposable coffee cups - no reusable mugs provided) means we never used it.

Laundry is $2 for washing and another $2 for drying (didn't bother with the latter - it's the desert, even thick cotton dries overnight!). Parking is free with lots of spaces.

Property: Hilton Union Square San Fransisco
Booked: Lowest possible ($260 USD), MVP rate (first time I've risked it)
Received: Skyline view floor 20-44 (we were on 21)
Benefits: 2 bottles water (offered at check in but refused). When we said we'd bought our own reusable, she pointed out all the filtered bottle refill stations around the hotel.
Status: Diamond

Easy access, close to the BART station from the airport. Lots of reasonable food within walking distance - we went to a Korean-mexican fusion place the second night! Kimchi burrito? Yes please!

Breakfast - continental complimentary for diamond, offered several times to upgrade to full for $8 I think it was. Kept offering us mimosas as well, but so jetlagged, probably not a good idea! Continental was fine for our purposes - included boiled eggs so I was happy as a clam with boiled egg on a bagel.

is there a super sale going on at the moment or is the presidential suite not worth much there?

We booked the base room on a sale rate.

This is a complimentary Diamond upgrade. Looking at dates next week it is 1,500 EUR a night.

They changed the room category in the app this morning so I made sure to use the online check in this time 😁

wow, this room is something else. Crazy!
what was the first room with the door you had to open? a naughty corner?

It was just an empty storage room or perhaps where you lock the misbehaving children up so you can enjoy yourself while you make use of the wine cellar ;)

Property: Hilton London Kensington
Booked: Standard double room
Received: Executive double room
Status: Diamond
Rate: GBP105 per night (I think, booked it a long time ago)

Arrived at 10am after flying ADL-MEL-HKG-LHR. Upgraded room not available immediately but not so bad as we’d spent several hours in the BA arrivals lounge for showers and breakfast. Had a couple of coffees in the Exec Lounge, left the luggage with the concierge and hit the town (or as much as you can after 24 hours of inflight Champagne and gin and tonics)

So this hotel is ok. I’ve not seen a lower price than the one I got so I was happy. The Exec Lounge is soulless but it’s ok for a few beers or gin and tonics. Stay clear of the wine as it looked cheap.

Breakfast in the restaurant was good and filling though. Decent selection of all the favourites including curry. We stuck to the hot chocolate from the machines as the coffee was poor.

Staff friendly and they offered to open the restaurant a bit early for us on our final morning as we had to leave early to catch the Eurostar to Paris.

Not a bad location and if you’re arriving by Tube I’d suggest getting off at Holland Park to the east and schlepping it up Holland Park Avenue. The alternative is to come into Shepherds Bush and negotiating the very unattractive roundabout albeit with a much shorter walk.

Hilton Garden Inn T2 Heathrow
Diamond
Booked: base on points plus pay
Received: family corner room top floor

If you are an aV geek then this hotel is amazing. I noted I would appreciate a runway view room and as an old regular at Hatton cross HGI I think they know it. From this room I could see 27L, gates 1-5 at T3 right down to T5 and from the other window T4 and departures queue. Facilities were quite modern and all staff I encountered were exceptional. A little more pricey than Hilton Garden Inn Hatton Cross but 100% worth it for the runway view and connection to T2& T3.

Got my first actual suite upgrade at Hilton Sydney the other week!!

Property: Hilton Sydney
Booked: King Guest Room
Received: Junior Suite
Status: Diamond
Rate: Honors Discount (or Semi-Flex, can't remember)

Lady Lenny and I stayed a Friday night in September to see a show at the State Theatre. App was showing an executive room upgrade so thought I'd see what happens at the desk, we were only there for 1 night and it was just a place to sleep and have a few drinks/dinner. Upgraded to a Junior Suite at check in without asking, no water bottles etc. in the room but I wasn't too fussed about that.

Lovely room, heaps of space. Glass for dinner (wine bar) and breakfast were delicious as always. Very happy with the upgrade this time around!

Property: Garden Inn Singapore
Booked: Twin Guest Room
Rate: 30k points (1 night stay)
Received: Twin Deluxe with Balcony

Nice modern hotel located in little India just behind the main temple. I believe we got the best upgrade possible considering that we needed twin beds, top floor corner room with balcony and nice view to busy Serangoon Rd which was beautifully lighten for some Indian festival.

Didn’t try the breakfast or any of other facilities.
Overall it was convenient and decent value for short stay.
