Glad i saw this thread again, it just reminded me of the card in the bottom drawer... 4k spend done on first statement, just checked, already have 4 statements and bonus points still not in the account. Poor form from old George! Put in a reminder for a phone call next week, will report back of their excuse.

At the moment the deal is $179 first year fee for 90k QFF points and thought I'd go again...not hopeful it dropping to zero annual fee anytime soon. Systems were down last night for applications. Tried again tonight, no go. Makes me think I should just wait until a lower first year fee comes out - I have justed served my 12 months for the previous card.

5 days later the systems still are down and unable to apply for a credit card. Perhaps that's their way of dealing with the backlog.

Given you decided to wait unsure why this is an issue?

Both our cards stopped working due to some identity issue. I was lucky I was in Sydney and was helped by a persistent banker. There were dud phone numbers and lots of phone transfers before he was able to unfreeze our cards. No need to contact the CEO.

I didn't say I decided to wait, although it got me thinking of that option. Anyhow decided to give it one last shot. I'm not overly confident a zero annual fee is likely to com

Just about to get back onto this after serving out my 12 month suspension period.

$179 for 90,000 Qantas points + 2 Qantas club passes seems like one of the best current deals.

I've also just finished my 12 months and heading back and was looking at this card (last year was fee free). Not wrapped about the $179 fee, however I stumbled upon the Platinum card which is normally $99 for 60k points, but found a link that it for only $49 fee. It doesn't have the lounge passes however. I'm thinking possibly that one instead.

Don't forget this is .5 point per dollar. The Amplify is .75.

But also $6,000 minimum credit for this card v $15,000 for the Amplify.

Yes you are right and I noticed that, but given I wouldn't be keeping the card other than getting the sign on points it probably doesn't make too much difference. i.e the Platinum I'd be spending little more than $2k so earning 1000 QFF points v Signature where you have to spend $4k which gives 3000 points. But to compare apples with apples, if I spent $4k on both it's only 1000 points worse off.

Keeping the card ongoing however is a different story. Also the minimum credit limit doesn't bother me too much either way as I'd be only holding it for a short period.

I guess it's whether I want another 30k points for and additional $130 for the fee with a couple of lounge passes. I've got around 1 million QFF points and have lounge access, so my thinking was trying to avoid as much expenditure as possible on fees. If I had minimal QFF points I may have thought differently however.

You may have swayed me. From memory Stgeorge make you wait the full 3 months to get the points?

Reports from others that was the case. In my two experiences with them it wasn't right away (like Citibank which is now excellent) but it wasn't 3 months - something like 5-6 weeks rings a bell, but it comes at statement time.

I have a few cards on the go at present and salary/repayment ability for another high limit card was a concern (not for me but for the lending criteria).

Decided to apply for the lower $49 cost card (bank of SA version) as Qantas also had an additional 20K offer to sign up with any Qantas points earning card. Had a few issues with the application process such as delays in contacting me over additional info, requests for last financial years payslips despite this years showing well over the usual minimum earning guidelines. At one stage they determined that I apparently had a 1K limit Westpac card still open and despite me not having this card they said they couldn't assess my application until it was removed.

They wanted me to get a closure letter from Westpac or contact the credit reporting agency to have it removed from my record. In the end after talking for a substantial time on te phone to customer service and managers I just said " OK assume I have the card just go ahead and assess my application with it included. An hour later I received my approval message.

Had a whinge to customer service and was promised 10K compensation points for poor service.

So 60K plus 20K Qantas bonus and 10K is a nice earner for $49.

Hi Woodyren,

Where is the bonus 20k Qantas offer from?

Thanks
Phillippe

Qantas had a bonus point offer recently. Click through their website for any of their Qantas point cards and receive an additional 20K. It has now ended.

Qantas recently has a 20k Bonus offer in July (finished 31 July midnight) for signing up for Qantas points earning credit card for the first time, which would have excluded the vast majority.

I applied for this one this morning (standard conditionally approved), but a little concerned on the # cards at the moment. Some institutions are as officious but I do recall St.George being a little pokey on this. We'll see how we go.

Actually I've read that some on OzBargain have managed in the past to get the same deal for Bank of Melb and Bank SA at the same time as the St.George offering and get the points. It is against the T's and C's to receive the points so either they were spinning stories of the bank had error. I don't think I've the knackers to try this however.

I'm on for the Platinum 60,000 QFF points for $49. Hope to churn very quickly.

Switch the card to Kris Miles and you won’t need to churn the card ever.
