Hi Guys,

I have a bit of a conundrum, I was planning on getting around to using my Kris Flyer points, i still have a couple of years to use them but i have a decent amount of them too. But I also have my amex travel credit to use which expires in Feb and a qantas lounge pass which also expires on Feb. My next trip will probably be my last trip for this year and possibly till April next year. I am trying to decide on how best to go about booking the next trips flights.

I was initially thinking of using Amex travel credit and booking a qantas flight so i can use my lounge pass as well and also because the qantas flight is a direct flight to where i want to go.

But then the other option was to booking it as a one way flight to where i want to go and still use the Amex credit and lounge pass but on the return use my KF points to get a business or First class (probably too late to get first class so may have to be waitlisted). Problem with booking it one way is you end up paying a premium which somewhat devalues the use of the credit etc. So for a return flight it will cost me around $1k but to get a one way flight will be around $620. So I will be paying a premium to do this but means i get to fly singapore business / first on the way back i guess.

Or i can stick with the first option of booking it return and use my KF points next year and year after. I do have about 600k KF points but if i fly business and occasional first, i can probably use them all up before they expire...

Is it a general Amex credit, or one that can only be used on Qantas flights?

If a general credit, I'd fly both ways SQ J or F and use the credit for accomodation. If that means the QF lounge pass expires unused, then so be it. Give it to a family member or friend.

If it's only a QF flight credit and you can't otherwise use it on a domestic trip, then the one way QF flight probably makes sense at those prices, but most of us are here to avoid flying Y, right?

Its just general AMEX travel credit. But I only really use it for flights as i have other options generally when it comes to accomodation.

So is it worth doing one way even if in essence i am paying a premium to do it as opposed to getting the return leg.

How do you guys all fly business and above every time :)
