Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This is an announcement that is likely to affect most AFF members and we do like to speculate here.

If the changes are big this could derail my status/lifetime status plans and impact my loyalty to QF. DSC on the cheap long haul QF Business tickets are hugely important to me, so any further reduction in the status earn rate would be frustrating.

There are already 62 posts in this thread (63 including mine) and we don't even know anything yet!!!

It's only been going for 2.5 hours. Come this evening when most people have finished work the speculation will go berserk.

It won't be good for us but we'll find ways to work around it and game the system to exploit the 'enhancements' as we've always done.

Maybe cheaper seats that don’t earn points or SC.

Hope they don’t make it harder to get status/lifetime status.

Without lifetime status to aim for I’d be likely to try competitor airlines.

Again.. this would hardly be a major overhaul and not worthy of a big announcement. It's obviously much more wide ranging - as hinted at in other posts.

Whatever the major changes are I can't help thinking implementation will likely bring all kinds of bugs and fails based on prior experiences... I guess they'll plan it to come in during the summer school holidays.... :p

Are you saying their IT department can't handle basic computing requirements? And that it won't be able to handle changes to a complex FF program? :p

Oh the cynicism. o_O

Don't you know they've got two groups of work experience students coming in to work on their IT system? What could possibly go wrong?

Comedy Airplane GIF

Ideally they should have a sandbox environment and already be well along with developing and testing the proposed changes at this point especially if they take effect in only 3 months. Obviously in the real world things occur that you don’t see in a sandbox and QA teams miss things.

Only 800 off LTG so very nervous - all that indirect and premium travel justified as “well at least i will have lounge access in retirement” ...

They better not devalue my points any further. They are already close to garbage as it is compared to other airlines, can barely get seats when and where I want.

Tinkering with award charts is going to get the CEO out.

Has to be something more fundamental - that has Qantas revenue implications.

Something significant on the earn side I think

They’ve been talking about recalibrating their earn and burn rates for a while now because something like 192k to Europe in F sounds high by comparison with some other programs, but the sticking point was how to devalue existing point balances. If they can find some way to do that I would expect them to divide burn rates by (say) 3 and earn rates by 4... but I can’t see them selling the idea of cutting existing point balances by two-thirds even if the impact is neutral.

The bulk of it will likely entail a lower weight on actual flying for status purposes.

Yer thanks for the attitude. Why would Qantas send an email to the general public about an impending media announcement? Surely you already get enough spam from them! Unless you want to attend the media day/press conference?
Exactly We get a lot of spam from Qantas but for the really important announcements all we get is crickets.

All speculations :

the "good" can be
1. releasing more last minute empty seats for redemption. at the last minute, like 48 hrs before.
2. partnering with China Eastern / Jetstar Asia / Cathay Dragon for more seats redemption
3. Increasing the range of things which you can burn your points on of little value.

the "bad" can be
1. increasing the SCs required to gain LTS/LTG.
2. minimum SC required to keep LTG/LTS, otherwise the status can be "frozen"
3. cancel soft landing !?

I just got WP for the first time, and even got a shadow for 10 hr flight in whY, that was fun.... while it lasted.

You KNOW there will be front webpage splash stuff, possibly a neew website or sub pages with info and emailbombs post 10:30am Thursday.

Don't feel so left out :p

The point was there's no need to tell your 10+ million members you're having a media event which is only for.. well.. media. When all is revealed the spin will commence and we'll be spammed with it.. of that I am certain.
