Q. How do you travel 50m in 2 hours?
A. You push back and then find out the tug can’t disconnect from the aircraft.

Two hours later the only solution was to deflate both of the nose wheel tires down to 80psi followed by connecting a new tug to push us back to the terminal and disembark so they could change both front wheels.

I feel especially sorry for the two guys next to me who fell asleep after boarding and we’re woken up as we were all getting off the aircraft. Imagine their surprise to get off the aircraft and find out they were still in Sydney.

Huge kudos though to the Captain who was amazing in keeping us all updated with explanations of exactly what was going on.

What can you do but laugh in these situations
Absolutely, nothing else you can do. Not sure the two guys next to me were laughing though. They were from Pakistan and looked like students so I can only imagine them getting off the plane and thinking how similar Perth airport looked Sydney.

"...as you can imagine, the aerodynamics of a tug are not optimal for flying at 36,000 feet so we'd prefer to leave it on the ground here. The driver might also appreciate it..." :p

So, there's reasons why the first tug just couldn't haul the aircraft back to the start so as all could get out? Two hours.
