We wanted to go to the States for Master FM’s birthday. However having had some expensive trips recently, the travel budget was looking rather threadbare. We decided it was time to give F the boot and experience the fun of travelling Qsuites out of Canberra.

Not a very exciting trip report, but I thought people might enjoy the Qatar bit.

24 April Cbr-Syd-doh-jfk

Staying at the Park Hyatt

Master FM and his gf join us on Saturday

Tuesday - Wicked
Wednesday Harry Potter
Friday Hamilton
Saturday Eleven Madison Park

Sunday 5th jfk -doh
3 nights Doha
Then doh-Syd-cbr

Haven’t organised too much as Master FM is very spontaneous and also not too sure how my body is going to hold up :)

Definitely interested in your report on Qatar as I am travelling with them in a few months.

I’m onboard.

Looking forward to your Qsuites report. I’m travelling QR J in September SYD-FCO for the first time, but unfortunately not on Qsuites.

Hope the health issues are well and truly under control now FM. Looking forward to hearing your experience with Qatar.
Unfortunately not, but getting there :). I am looking forward to flying internationally from Canberra! No worries about fog or missed connections :) Well I suppose we can still get fog, but that will be Qatar’s problem :)

Look forward to your updates on EMP. Hope you have a better experience at PHNY than we did.... a 50% reduction (peace offering) on two suites at checkout wasn't sufficient to save our relationship with Hyatt.

that sounds bad - what happened? We generally stay at the Taj, but because we are on a budget (and paying for two rooms), and can’t afford the nicer rooms at the Taj I went with Park Hyatt - their rooms are bigger for the same price.

That’s pretty miserable - however I enjoyed the food photos - I have read the trip report before but didn’t remember the PH travails. Hope we do better :)

Very interested to hear about the Oz to US via Qatar angle.

Looking at some flights recently to the US and the option (cheaper) to go with Qatar or JAL to the US presented itself.

I tried to tempt management to fly via sidderney to sample the Q suites but the deal (under5k) with EK was unmissable so we are flying Bne/Dxb/Cdg + Osl/Dxb/Bne
Have a great trip

At the airport 3 hours before our flights as we had no idea what we had to do. First part was pretty easy. Turn left to the Virgin area, where SQ and Qatar do checkin. Checkin was open and staffed by very friendly Qantas personnel. Hand luggage gets a tag as well, but was not weighed.

From there it was through normal security and up to the domestic Qantas lounges. The J lounge was closed, so everyone in the Qantas club.

On checking my boarding passes, I noticed we are in 9 e and F for the first leg and then back to 3e and f for Doha -jfk. Checked with my trusty TA I.e. Madrooster and he said the change happened on Monday and that 3F is now blocked - maybe a broken seat. Anyway no biggie - at least we are still together and in the type of seats we wanted. The odd rows are backward facing and have the seats close together and can be made into a double bed. The even numbers face forward and are further apart.p4968692C-9796-4B91-9F93-BDADD2B21046.jpeg

When I flew on Sunday the J lounge was open but QC was closed so everyone sent to J lounge.
