The new Tasmanian amendments are opt in.So if you do not say anything when registering the birth gender is left blank.I would hope in practice when people register a birth they will be asked what gender they want on the certificate.
Same applies to death certificates but the bill actually says only the person the certificate applies to or if under 16 the parents may decide what to put in for gender.Bit hard when you're dead!.

The problem that will come about despite the pollies denial stems from the fact that you may change your gender as many times as you want.So if a fellow is going to apply for a job where a woman is going to be preferred does he just change his gender before applying?Or if he feels he would be more successful playing a sport as a woman?

This Israel Folau thing has gone too far. If you're not religious what he said should be irrelevant, vulnerable or not vulnerable. If you're religious then none of what he said should be news to you.

So again deciding on what denigrating comments should be relevant to a group of people....... Anyhow it seems we're not going to agree on why people need to think before they speak, or post things on a public platform and show compassion towards other people.

Folau will head to a code of conduct hearing after the Anzac Day 'long weekend', where it is most likely his contract will be terminated. I agree it already is an issue with some not allowed to play AFLW (just as one example) so I think that it will need to be properly confronted and resolved at some stage.

I think (as in quite common on AFF ) the latest discussions have gone somewhat away from the the original post on whether people have the right to espouse publicly certain beliefs and views.

Like I said in my OP IMO, he believes he's trying to save "all of the groups" mentioned in his tweet - have you read his tweet?

I personally do not like what Anning, Falou and some Greens' Senators (such as Sarah Hanson-Young's anti-Jewish stance) comments and social media announcements. However, I will respect their right to voice their opinion. I just personally will not cast my vote for them (and the parties they associate with) or turn up to any games/social events with them around.

In recent years, I had been personally attacked and vilified just for asking questions or pointing out some historical facts. ( For example, I asked some Greens supporters why did they regard naz_s as Right Wing, when naz_s actually stand for National Socialist - ultra Left Wing - and their original policy pre-WWII were actually similar to some of Greens' belief especially in the area of Anti-Semitic (anti-Israel) stance.) Also, at times, I pointed that I support a Mixed-Racial and Melting Pot Culture society rather than Multicultural one. I found these days, when you start to ask uncomfortable questions and quoting scripture or facts/stats, I just get attacked for being Islamophobic, Homophobic, Racist, a White Supremacist or whatever nasty name I can be lumped with.

(Note: I am an ABC with a White partner, I have Tamils Malay Indian, Austrian/Germans and Scotch Irish on the In-Law side - from both Hetro and Same Sex Marriage links. )

We in Australia, along with just about the rest of the world, have moved beyond Voltaire. Libel lawyers are very active. Racial and religious vilification is against the law. Falou’s tweets fall short of that but still clearly denigrate groups of people he disapproved of. He was warned by Rugby Australia about his comments on social media, and he ignored those warnings. He deserves to be sacked.

Are we going to ban Bible (Old Testament) and Quran because both books contained similar passages to support Falou's POV? Will Australia go through Cultural Revolution or naz_'s regime where books were burnt and removed off the shelves just because? Don't forget Academics during those dark times were silenced or worse "re-educated" in camps.

Sadly it is very likely - we have become a society divorced from fact and reality and instead one driven purely by emotion and subjective feelings. There are some amusing clips on Youtube where leftards are interviewed and when confronted with the facts the retort is 'there's no such thing as fact and the only thing that matters is emotion'. No more can we refrain "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" and instead everything must be reduced to the lowest common denominator of what the most brittle and hypersensitive professional victim approves of.
