Amex D-Day Approaching (14/4/19)!

Just found and paid a $3.2k invoice from one of my suppliers. Paid them online, transaction immediately pinged up on my Google pay app and in my Amex app as a "Pending". I'd guess that this will add another 6500 points to my Ascent rewards before they cutoff at midnight. I'm scrabbling around to see what else I can prepay.... might go and buy a couple of egift cards for Woolies.

The day is here everyone.
It's been a great journey so far, I hope everyone sits back tonight and enjoys looking at their 0 balance in their AmEx MR accounts.

On a related note, here's some fun facts about zero:
  • The first known English use of zero was in 1598.
  • Fibonacci (of the famed Fibonacci sequence) used the term zephyrum, which after a couple of translations via Italian and Venetian, eventually became zero.
  • The concept of zero as a digit in the decimal place value notation was developed in India.
  • 0 is even, but is neither negative nor positive.
  • 0 carries controversy with it, as its status as a natural number is debated. Most mathematical authors suggest that 0 be excluded from the natural numbers (counting numbers), but others disagree.
  • Division by 0 is not defined, some people believe that dividing by zero will result in a black hole forming.
  • 0 is often used to force a flight number to be 3 digits, e.g. SQ1 is sometimes written as SQ001 and QF1 is sometimes written as QF001, SQ31 is sometimes written as SQ031, etc etc... (Had to leave the best till last, right?)
Congratulations for making it all the way to the end :)

I could never get my head around why 0 was an even number. I remember struggling so much with that as a kid.

Now, I get to struggle with points devaluations. The cycle continues!

I have a $20K invoice just arrived. I wonder if I can pay that now, and transfer the points before midnight?
You can,*if* the transaction goes from pending to approved today (when points post).

I reckon your chances are slim.
At least you only "lose" half if it doesn't make it

I tried to time everything for a childish challenge to be on zero points, but ended up with 18 points

Feel like a failure:p

Fat chance of that happening... would work ok if you didn't need to transfer the points.

Unfortunately the time has come, transferred my remaining points to Etihad yesterday for either Oman or Virgin Redemption.

Purchased final Woolworths eGift on Friday Morning to clear out the remaining point transfer 1000 minimum, the transaction is still pending so any purchases not posted Friday is no doubt only go to be posted tomorrow.

Amex will never be the same after today.

I agree. I just distributed my points amongst Virgin Velocity, Etihad Guest, Asia Miles, and Krisflyer. Was left with 500 points. I have added the dates in an Excel spreadsheet as well as Calendar reminders for the Expiry of these points.

I will still keep my Amex Explorer Card for 1 points per $ spend, and Edge for 1.5 points per $ spend for supermarkets which is still the highest for Singapore/Etihad/Asia Miles and will begin the warehousing again.

I already have the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard for my 1 point per $ Qantas earning and the ANZ Travel Adventures Visa for my fee free overseas spend, and its added benefits which offset the yearly fee which I transfer to Velocity periodically.

It just means instead of pushing everything towards Amex, I will be more selective. YMMV.

All my pending stuff from Friday has come through as 2ppd this morning.
My charge now earns "ascent premium 2" as my tiered earn will continue till end of June.

Any reason left to keep the Explorer card? I have the PC which i'll start using now, can't think of any reason to keep the Explorer other than the phone insurance?

I have $8000 of Woolies 5% off gift cards coming over this period so I will probably switch them into 10% off Caltex fuel cards and then check the damage wreaked on Amex Platinum Edge points earn.
