Hi all, has anyone had the experience of using a QF lounge pass to enter the lounge without linking the pass to your flight beforehand (as you're now supposed to do)?

ie. can you just rock up to the lounge entry and ask to use one of your passes to get in?

No, you need to be flying to get entry to a domestic lounge or be the guest of someone who is flying.
Yeah I get that. My question is whether you need to link a pass to your flight booking before arriving at the airport? That’s what Qantas’ site says, but I’m wondering if instead you can ask at the lounge entry for that to be done?

Not sure if lounge staff can do it. it would be interesting to see if they can noting that they would have to log into your QFF account to access the pass and then link it to your flight. You would have to give them your PIN.

Then there may be a delay as per the Qantas T&Cs.

Note if you link your complimentary Invitation to an eligible flight within 23 hours of departure, there may be over 20 minutes delay for the linking to complete after the link process is completed in the portal.

When I turned up at a lounge and asked them to do it I had to stand aside and log into my account and attach it to that particular flight myself before they let me in.

The lounge dragon/dragoness will insist you add the lounge invite to the reader at the gate towards the lounge.
They treat the invite like a purchase these days, ie, you have to link it to use it, or they won't let you in.
My first visit as a QF PS using my single entry, as soon as I get to the top of the escalator of the MEL T1 lounge, I am already asked if i have linked the invite to the flight...
No I say, the lounge dragon then asks me to log into my QFF account, and in there, I am not sure what he did, but after I logged in, he tapped something, and then, I am good to enter.
Now, on my QFF account, there is a notation of entry used, into the lounge.
If you have QP membership, its probably different, or if you are QF SG, you can just scan your card, but if its an invite, you have to link it (invite) to a flight.
Edit: my trip MEL - ADL was on Adelaide Cup public holiday, MEL was too, I guess.
Best to link before getting to airport, otherwise you will be holding up the time of one of the lounge dragons/dragonesses, as they have to show you how to do it.
There might also be people waiting behind you to have it done too.

My experience is that the lounge pass (I'm assuming Digital in this case) needs to be linked to your booking via the app or website before you visit the lounge. Also, when you've linked the lounge pass to your booking, you'll see this information printed on your boarding pass, which the lounge reception will be able to identify, scan and let you in to the lounge.

Had this done for my recent flight from AKL-MEL travelling Y

Edit : If however, you've a physical lounge pass (like the ones you get with your credit card sign ups) are unable to link digitally to your booking via the app or the website and can be produced to the lounge reception and gain entry

Had used this successfully twice, once on Dom Y, gaining access to QC and once at BKK QF Lounge, however, was re-directed to at 3rd party lounge as I was travelling Y

I thought most credit cards generated electronic passes these days? Regardless, nothing else to add to the answers here.

You are right, these days almost all CC's provide digital passes. Thanks for pointing out.

The physical ones I had were from the year before and I almost forgot about them and so used them in a rush before they expired. So used all two of them in the same month

Nice that they (and the software programmer) let you do that, but I wouldn't rely on it always being allowed as <24hours is against QFA T&Cs "3.3 Eligible Customers must link the Invitation to an Eligible Flight in the Portal at least 24 hours prior to flight departure. "

If you link it sufficiently before your BP is printed (20 minutes beforehand per their FAQ) your lounge entitlement is printed/coded on your boarding pass and you don't have to mess around. If not, you need to do the dances above with the lounge staff.

I have successfully walked up to lounge, linked the passes up on my phone there and then and accessed the lounge right away.
Were you asked for the Confirmation Email or to show the lounge pass attached on your phone?

If you do it beforehand, you will only need your BP, they scan it (or read whatever the given code is printed on the BP) and you have access.

I can't remember, I might have showed my phone but it was painless. It was a Qantas loung for a Jetstar flight.

Good to know you might be allowed to do it at the door...so to speak.
Conversely if you link a pass...and don't actually use it...is it gone or still able to be used another time?
I prefer the old cards...you could decide on the spot.

For us who use the CC invites you want to get max value out of your one or two visits per year so sometimes your plans change and your 3 hour lounge visit will be reduced to 30 minutes so I would rather not waste the invite.
