NBN Discussion

I have been very happy with my 4G modem for the last 2 years. No landline here!
My thought exactly for my business connection. No way I’m going to NBN with the cluster***k that they have created. They spent $5K putting in connection in our group of shops only to abandon them 3 weeks later when the technology was set aside.

We have a landline but only so the dodgy call centres have someone to ring. NBN twice as fast as ADSL2 was, but about 15% of the 4G speed.
At the time NBN was the right option but 4G plans have now become so cheap that we’ll be dropping NBN shortly. It’ll take about 2 months to be ahead so it’s really a no brainer.

My enthusiasm is well and truly curbed and will remain so until nbn gets me connected. Currently totally dependent on my mobile phone.

It may have been totally coincidental and nbn may have done their bit, but I'm up and running after rebooting both the nbn box and the Telstra modem. I like to think that I am smarter than the average Telstra technician, so I'm claiming it was me :D.

After ADSL, speeds look good. The feeling of satisfaction will no doubt last for at least a week.

We still haven't had any problems with ABB.Even now late afternoon in school holidays and speed-24.8/4.5 when we are on a 25/5 plan.

If I take up a NBN ISP offer on say a 50mb plan would the speed be the same no matter which ISP I chose?

Not exactly. The maximum attainable rate will be the same (i.e.t he max speed your line can support based on technology deployed, any in-home issues etc), but the second part of the equation is whether your ISP is purchasing enough CVC and backhaul bandwidth for the number of customers they have connected at your POI - this varies a lot.

ISPs like Aussie Broadband are very transparent and publish cvc utilisation reports daily for their POIs so you can see how heavily utilized they are.

Also larger ISPs like Telstra, Optus, TPG and Aussie Broadband manage their own cvc at all the POIs, some smaller RSPs and sub-brands are buying their access via Telstra wholesale and rumour has it Telstra shapes that those smaller RSPs to have inferior service to their direct customers.

How much data?
We have our phones in the plan as well, so max of 212 gb a month but with three very active phones plus internet at home, streaming etc, the most we have used is 30% of that. We don’t have a teenager who massively downloads and we would stream five times a week. Plus all the usual game and movie downloads, updates etc etc. Plus it’s portable. When we move we just unplug the modem then plug it in at new place.

Currently it’s slowed to around 20mbs I’m guessing peak time.

I keep getting Robocalls from the "Australian National Broadband Network" that it's about to be cut off unless I....... (don't know, I've always hung up by then).

I wonder how many people get suckered in by this scam?

Renato

Try responding with something like" Thank goodness you called and thanks for finally taking some action. I have been trying to terminate my NBN contract for weeks. So you are telling me if I just ignore your call and do nothing, you will finally terminate my unwanted service withing 24 hours? Thank you so much.... click".

I'd have to ring them back (or email?) but that would be fun.

I am loving my Vodafone 50 FTTH plan which has 4G backup. $60 a month and with the 4G back up pretty much can never drop out.

I'm looking at VF as well due to the 4G backup and should be able to connect next month if I decide to go with them. I have my mobile with them as well - they offer me what I need and the price is right so hoping that their NBN offers a similar experience.
