Hi AFF guru's, my situation currently is as follows. Purchased return jetstar tickets to HNL on Amex plat edge cards, returning flight got cancelled 6 weeks in advance and hence Jetstar moved us to another suitable flight three days later.

Would I be able to claim insurance for the last three nights of accomodation? Has this happened to anyone before?

I attempted to get an answer from chubb insurance, but they said they won't be able to provide an answer until we claim.

My interpretation of the T&C below is that you will only get some money if Jetstar cancelled your flight after you had already started your trip.

"If during a Trip, departure of Your Scheduled Flight is delayed for four (4) hours or more, cancelled, or You are denied boarding of the aircraft due to over-booking, and no alternative transportation is made available to You within four (4) hours of the scheduled departure time of such flight, We will reimburse You for hotel accommodation and restaurant meals or refreshments up to $500."

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I disagree. A trip is defined by paying for it rather than physically commencing it.
I think you should push for it-it certainly passes the man-in-the-pub test that you should be covered.

Shouldnt Jetstar be paying for your hotel?

anyway, read the policy, and then ring Amex. You wont impair your ability to claim by asking questions.

I would expect them, however the flight was cancelled with a month notice. They had offered passage back to sydney via melbourne, but with young kids, I had opted for a direct flight instead.

Have rung Amex previously, they just said that they won't have an outcome until a claim has been submitted.

That is very true.

I think I'm with you Jetpack.

Do we know what is their definition of a trip (i.e, the bit where it says" … if during a Trip …)? This may throw a spanner in the works.

without readiing the policy (and having claimed something almost similer through another provider) I would say you are covered. The policy will cover you for extra costs incurred because of events outside of your control. The lines Jetpack quoted you are *not* the clause you are looking for, thats for a delay of a scheduled flight. There is another one relating to additional expenses.

It seems you havent travelled yet, Why dont you just book the hotels, pay up front, but with free cancellation and submit the claim.

The main thing you need to do is be reasonable. You cant claim for a 5 star hotel, if you have been staying at 2 star the whole trip
