Qantas bag tags colours

I think it's hilarious when people use them on carry on (and obviously only carry on) bags with the intent being to show off their Silver and Gold status like they're important. Always gives me a chuckle.
Have to say I would be rather chuffed to have a CL set lol

I use them on my HLO, simply as regular name tags.

Plus, if my small roller case exceeds the weight restriction, I can easily check it.

Perhaps I’m to only person who checks my HLO when it gets heavy... in which case you can chuckle at me for that too! :)

As I have not done anything with my tags are they trackable? Can anyone registered the tag to themselves? Or is it already associated with a Qantas FF number ?

no they aren't encoded with anyone's specific details. They get tagged with a bag tag tracking number associated with a particular booking/flights on day of travel. (at least that's how I understand it).

No, not unless they are pass though one of QFs infrared scanners at checkin. Hence the “coaster” analogy.

Despite the cynicism of some AFFers, you can actually write your name and number on the back.

This is the main use I have for them... when I’m not using them to prevent ring marks on the coffee table that is. :)

The codes that show up in the Amadeus system:

CLPO - Chairman One (Chairman's Lounge who also qualified as Platinum One)
CLQF - Chairman's Lounge
FFPO - Platinum One
FFPL - Platinum
FFGD - Gold
FFSL - Silver
QCSL - Silver with QF club
FFBR - Bronze
QCBR - Bronze with QF club

There's also CPQF but I'm not sure what that is.

I read somewhere that this also plays into the upgrade lotto system. It is my understanding that upgrade requests are prioritised as CLPO, PO, CLWP, WP, CLSG, SG, etc. etc.

I have recently put the P1 coasters on my hand luggage in the vain hope I get left alone if I am on a fight that is subject to to the weighing of hand luggage fiasco.

CLPO > CLQF > FFPO > FFPL > FFGD > QCSL/FFSL > QCBR/FFBR from what I can tell from the numerous data points I've got. CL is not distinguished as far as earned on their own steam status other than at the P1 level.

Even though I’ve flown a hell of a lot I’m still confused how to actually use the coasters for flights. I’ve always been a bit hesitant and tend to prefer the old fashioned tags.
Can someone explain how you go about using them? Is it literally at the self check just have them on and then go through the normal process?

First up I suspect most staff don't really understand QF's own FF status levels, especially to the extent of identifying tags by colour.

Second, I suggest a much more audacious way of using them would be to hang both of them from your earlobes - this may actually attract interest :)

I just use them to make my black bags look a little different to everyone else's black bags.

How do you know people’s intent? I have them on hand luggage so I don’t get stopped in priority queues. Ok you can buy them on eBay but that isn’t the point. I also can’t be bothered taking them off and then putting them back on when the bags I use for hand luggage is sometimes put through check in. It’s not more ‘look at me’ than that.

That's a good point, as is the earlier one about possibly being exempted from bag weighing shenanigans at the gate.

I wonder if it's ever actually worked? (Serious) I mean has anyone actually experienced an agent noticing "Oh, you're Platinum. OK" sort of deal.

And no, I do not know each individuals intent with them. Just seems to me when I am behind people in the boarding lane or security or whatever some seem very deliberately placed.... and maybe the vast majority just want them to be either visible to staff or easy access to scan, but I am sure there are some who do it ONLY to be seen. Eh, it takes all types :)

Of course there's also the problem that say I was P1 3 years ago and kept the tags on my bag but have fallen to Gold, the only real way to know my current status is via the BP or other "current" lookup method.

Nobody takes notice of my AN tags!!! :p

I’m thinking that they would rate a look in the security priority queues though.
