I travel with a 20-22kg suitcase regardless if it's 3 days travel or 4 weeks travel.

I'm the same...drives Mrs 340 crazy.

There's a whole class of people whos aim is to limit what they take to a single bag, even for weeks of travel. You can see examples of this over at another website: OneBag - The Art of Minimalist Packing

I've come across these people a few times. I always love people that live to a particular philosophy. I too love such philosophies. I love seeing how they look as I pass them while giving a regal wave. "That's lovely darling. Good for you".

To be fair though, I have had many trips where I've packed more than I've used. And yeah, my case even seems to be at the 20kg mark regardless of it is and couple of nights or a couple of weeks. But as I said earlier, I can't be bothered lugging a tonne of stuff on a plane and Iv'e trimmed down my onboard more than I have my over-all luggage. One day I may pay for it with a stolen bag. But until that day, I'm happy to lug a heap of cough into the hold on anything but a day trip.

Ha ha ha.
We recently upgraded our suitcases as he's on a previous trip crumbled. I bought her a slightly smaller case than mine, as she had the intention of 'trying' to downsize. Instead, she's grabbed my older case which is bigger for subsequent flights after using that smaller one once.

Really don't like heaving around lots of luggage when travelling. We (a couple) generally have one checked bag at about 15kg between us.

We have a competition as to who travels lightest overseas. Of course I’m the one who takes the shampoos, sunscreen etc If over 16 kilos I chuck stuff out. I used to take more but less is best.

We travelled OS with a baby and didn’t take much large equipment. A lightweight stroller and sling and that’s it. Can’t believe the amount of stuff parents take these days.

I've travelled internationally several times with just my passport, phone, wallet and house keys.

I don't run quite so lean as Austman, but I have been queried by Customs several times for seemingly having too little baggage.
Always sorted with a brief explanation.

Hence the "homes". These were during longer work trips away. Sometimes one "home" was a hotel that I'd usually check-out of during a short trip back to my real home. The hotel would mind my bags. But sometimes I'd have an apartment "home" paid for by work on my longer trips. Either way I'd not need carry on. I've always maintained 2 sets of toiletries etc - one permanently at my real home and one for travel - it makes packing and unpacking quicker. And the airline usually handed out an amenity kit.

It did cause me troubles when arriving at MEL intentional! I learnt that the solution was simply to buy some duty free on arrival. Having one plastic carry bag seemed to quell their suspicions.

You suspect wrong. I travel HLO, when I travel with MrsM and MissM I always have to take checked luggage . At the AU checkin I get the same confused look from the checkin staff, my standard response is - yes it is empty, I am just taking it for the return journey” .

This coming January may be different as I have been told I need to take the cold weather clothing to Harbin and Sapporo as they need space in their luggage for coats, scarfs gloves etc. Maybe I will have to check 2 bags for this upcoming trip.

So who carries all the shampoos etc? Sunburn cream. Other medicals, deodorants etc you can’t HLO. Unless you rely on hotel ones I guess.
