Have really enjoyed Virgin's J mealtime offerings on many routes, but flying DPS>SYD last week overnight I was disappointed in the offering. The food wasn't poor quality, rather it felt like there wasn't much thought put into the menu.
A small soup was the only choice for 'supper service', and came with a dry piece of cake. Ice cream or sauce would have been very nice (at least the bread roll was great)
Breakfast into Sydney had potential with a nice toasted croissant, however there was no jam available for the pastry. Granola was served with yoghurt, coulis, fresh mint and blueberries (only 3) and a side of additional yoghurt (how much yoghurt do you need?)
Is this a case of Virgin cutting corners on tourist routes or the variability of foreign catering quality? I've seen on domestic routes that VA is able to prepare some lovely meals in the small 737 galley....
