The laksa was tasty today but there’s no kick in the chillis at all just colour. Wonder how often they’ll be changing their menus. I was there at peak hour around 5:30pm and there were still seats available which was a refreshing change.

IIRC there's no soft drink machine in BNE J either. Dunno about PER but seems to be a new design element.

If you want to take the green view it's to help curb obeisity levels
If you want to curb obesity levels then do away with the coffee culture that has developed over the past 10-15 years.

There's a reason hips are getting wider and wider. "May I please have a 300 calorie designer coffee and while I'm here I'll also have that 400 calorie piece of cake." I see people doing that 2-3 times/day as well as eating normal meals. No amount of walking is going to burn those calories.

And I still don't understand why there isn't a soft drink dispenser in the lounge.

You're confusing coffee culture with mega chocolate frappe culture - there's a strong difference.

My short macciato or piccolo latte wouldn't even have 20 calories in it, and how would you fit into skinny jeans?

I rarely have cake with coffee and I pick the lowest calorie offering when I do. Strangely the coffee culture doesn’t force me to eat cake, it’s my mind that is followed through by my mouth asking for it then my hand for taking it and putting it in my mouth.

According to wiki:
In Greek, "gyros" is a masculine noun, so is used with an "s" in the nominative case (Gyros is delicious), and without an s in the accusative case (I would like a gyro).

*puts conspiracy hat on*

What if Qantas is trying to reduce the average weight of its most frequent flyers (i.e. lounge users) by removing the soft drink dispensers and pushing healthy food options.

Lighter pax = less fuel burn = more profit. :p

I’d be happy with Sydney anything. The DOM J lounge is dismal and inferior to the new QPs - let alone the new J lounges.

You'd take the new MEL Qantas Club, with its complete lack of natural light and loud levels of noise, over the existing SYD J Lounge (or even QC)?!

The inferiority extends to the food too. One time, after looking at the same brown gruel served at Syd Dom J, I wandered to the QP and was surprised the options there were actually better.

nailed it in one. The snobby coffee culture, specially in Melbourne, is all about the bean and taste, not ohow much milk(unless it's almond :p ) or faux whipped cream, hazelnut swirls and pumpkin spice(You know it's coming) cough. There's a reson Starbucks is (mostly) a failure in Australia. I do not consider those mostly sugar and milk drinks to be coffee (don't get me wrong, I enjoy the odd iced coffee on a hot day too). My regular is a long mac and that has a just a touch or milk in it. The pureists scoff at even that and it's espresso all the way (and the Italians will lynch you if you contemplate milk after about 10am).

All that aside though, I think QF is just trying to be "funky" and with the times of what they think their punters demand.

In a similar vein removing soft drink self serve and replacing with those fancy quench juices is probably seen as healthier (though I tried a rather sweet pink leomade thing recently in BNE that probably had a fair dash of the nectar of the cane).

The weird thing is though if they're trying to appeal to the health types by all this, having your eggs, bacon and sausages at brekky and the toasties and stuff like that on board in J seems to go against that grain (though you can always find some fruit and salad options it's true).

Really though I think QF should bring back the self serve coffee machines and postmix soft drink stations. Just so much easier for all, and reduces workload on the bar staff busy making coffees or pouring beers.

SYD Dom J so needs a refresh of food. I take the 5pm SYD-MEL weekly and Im glad I can expense a meal on the other end as that salty noodle slop is becoming inedible and the refreshment is a joke. Im actually jealous of BNE flyers (but not always as I sit in the SYD int F lounge).

Hmmmm.... I'd call that noodle soup.

Don't know how they would cater for the spice preferences of patrons. I love heaps to the point where my friends almost die eating my dish; yet I had a boss who thought that butter chicken was a spicy dish.
