Hi everyone,

Due to Sydney weather my Qantas flight to Brisbane just got cancelled. It was booked as a classic reward. Can I get my points back? What about the taxes/fees?

Also my return flight will need to be cancelled, should I do this myself online?

I’ve never been in the situation before (lucky) so any info would be great! Thank you

Yes both should be refunded all taxes and points with no fees. But don't do it online as the system will charge you 5,000 points cancellation fee. Call Qantas and explain why you want a full refund.

"We are experiencing very high call volumes" - should be a fun day of waiting around for Qantas to answer everyone's calls! Thanks for the tip re not doing an online cancellation :)

I suggest you make notes of the call - who it is you speak to, what was agreed. Really your only evidence of the 'transaction' if something goes wrong. There are reports of it taking a long time to get the cash component back. If the agent for some reason is unreasonable, saying something like 'oh, you forfeit the points for the return journey if you voluntarily cancel it', politely hang up and call again, to get a different agent.

thank you, good tip!

Update: after a 4-hour callback wait, I had a very helpful lady on the phone and have received full points refund and fee refund back to card in 5-10 business days. Points already back in account!
