Best reason for an aircraft not to fly

Now sitting in the Admirals Club after de-planing AA27 LAX > HND due to the engineer losing "his rag"!

Sounds good, but the pilot informed us that the engineer was cleaning the air con duct and his cleaning rag was sucked into the plane. After 3 fruitless hours the rag could not be retrieved and we are waiting for another aircraft.

Must admit AA did a good job, with the pilot keeping us in touch and quickly offering people other alternatives.

But surely other AFFer's must have some better stories.

Wasn't there a maintenance guy who got sucked "into" a jet engine? But he managed to hang onto the inner cowling and walked away.

This isn't what I recall, but along the same lines.

Dunedin to Auckland approx 9-10pm private charter of a A330 and we were delayed as they needed a alcohol license and we waited and waited until the pilot said we have to go.

Makes perfect sense...an EICAS or ECAM computer would be a no go. On the other hand, it's just a box, that should be reasonably simple to replace.

Everyone boarded and ready to go in ORD ... except the pilots who were late arriving on another flight.

After an hour delay they gave the fastest welcome I’ve ever heard and we were away ... well sort of with a queue of 20 other planes waiting to take off

Fokker 27, all pax on board, RGN-MGZ scheduled flight.
Waiting for 2 generals and 3 monks
One monk didn't make it, he was the main Sayadaw (head Phongyi/monk) for a blessing ceremony down in Myeik where we were due to fly
Pax offloaded.

Flew the next day.

RFDS plane - grounded overnight as needed engineering inspection before flying again after hitting a goanna on landing.

But delays also remind me of one of my own life experience. 25 1/2 years ago my daughter was born with Downs and a hole in the heart. First three months were touch and go, then the big one, she had a cardiac arrest and was not expected to live. They brought in the Childflight helicopter to Nepean Hospital and flew her out to the old Childrens Hospital in Camperdown. 7am the flight took off and I met the nurse who aided the flight and she told me that they had full priority that morning and she could see the planes lining up at Mascot as they flew effectively across the flight path.

A few weeks later once things settles I had the early flight to MEL and we were delayed. The PAX next to me was carrying on to no end, complaining that he would be late for a meeting etc, etc, when i told him it may be someone else's child in need and relayed my story. He just shut up and never spoke another word the whole flight.

She is now approaching 26 years and traveled the world. The class of seat does not bother her as long as there is good entertainment.

Mum always told her she could do anything she wanted in life. When she found someone to marry, mum didn't really think she could go back on those comments. Mum always told her she could do anything she wanted in life. When she found someone to marry, mum didn't really think she could go back on those comments. That's also a wonderful story and great to hear. You would appreciate when i tell people to be touched by the soul of a Downs child is one of the great experiences life can give: pure innocence.

I couldn't find Camperdown but the current children's hospital at Randwick is XSN

It doesn't have an IATA code. YRPA is the IACO code.
