Agree, some AU based staffs are truly a star here. Really appreciate it.
Every aus rep I've dealt with has been polite, competent, apologetic (as I'm usually calling up to fix a problem caused/not resolved by the Philipino call centre)

I now call during busienss hours and if I get a Philipino I will politely ask to be put throguh to an Australian one which they always oblige

What an awesome thing to stir up.

Actually yes, it is a good one. Amex have a vested interest in RewardPay (which I dare say is one of the reasons they have stopped paying out on PayPal). Pointing this out may well lead them to realise they can't restrict PayPal alone unless the product T&Cs state it.

Assuming you were chatting from someone from the philllipines, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

They talk the utter most garbage a lot of the time

India, yes.

I lodged it as a complaint a few days ago and followed up again. The chat staff advised that they don't respond to complaints and it is up to the customer to call or chat again to check the progress. The guy started with "it was awarded correctly" however could not provide a reference in the T&Cs to this. After a bit of backwards and forwards, their story changed to "it was not paid correctly" and I was manually credited the correct points. I was told that, if it happens again, I should get in touch with them to correct it.

As previously mentioned, the difference between Paypal & Reward Pay.

Except that Reward Pay is a service in itself, that you as a consumer are paying for due to perceived multiple benefits. Now we all know that the main reason people use Reward Pay is to get full points on government & utilities spend, but there are other benefits to why people use the service. The most prominent probably being that it allows you to utilise a credit card for payments and have access to interest free days on transactions where this isn't usually possible.

You are paying RP for a service.

Whereas, the merchant is paying Paypal for processing transactions on it's behalf, it is a payment intermediary similar to banks.

I’ve mentioned before that I would raise this matter to Amex and I’ll continue to do so. They credited the point difference to my account today. The statment is “Credit Adjustment”.

Cleared.

I said that they have nothing to back them for the half point through PayPal.

Thanks for reporting.

That’s what I think got them to back down. I asked repeatedly for some reference to it, and just kept getting told “there’s is no reference but it was done correctly”. Eventually this seemed to sink in and it became “there was an error so we will manually change it and just get back in touch for future errors”.

I suspect they’ll need to update the product terms if they want to enforce this.

hi , this shows on my transaction statement : "PAYPAL *AP 0386778421", I only got 0.5 points for that, however, for "

PAYPAL*AP 35314369001", i got 2 points for that. Anyone knows why?? should I call Amex to find out the reason why it's different rates??

I'm going to complain today.. lets see

EDIT: just finished an online chat and they have credited the shortfall straight away, no issues.
EDIT2: and the missing points are in!

my wife had this too.
she did 3 payments, 2 min apart, all using the same explorer.
2x were over $1k each and they got the "8421" so 0.5ppd
1x was ~$300 and got the "9001" so got 2ppd

have raised an investigation for her over amex chat.

I do wonder if there is a value that prompts the earning drop. The same council bill I had earned 2 ppd for a $10 test but 0.5 ppd for a $1300~ test. Had I done several $100 transactions, I wonder if it would have just worked

Not really. I tested a $5 payment few days ago and it came out at 0.5 ppd. Well I got 3 MR for it (rounded up).

There goes that theory. Strange one then.

It does seem Amex may have realised they are in a bit of a grey area in regards to the terms of the product. I’d expect clause to be added stating that they can do it (like Citi have)

I had to argue a little over chat y'day.
She kept saying PayPal is a payment processor, not the merchant hence you did pay govt and hence 0.5ppd is correct

Do not waste your time with the chat agents. They know nothing and have no authority. Call Amex and tell them that Amex linked to PayPal always gets full points no matter what the merchants are.

i would've but its my wife's card.
she isn't interested in calling so its easier on chat for me to do it ;)

I notice people keep saying to use MC or Visa instead of AMEX for government charges etc but all my MC and Visa cards specifically state that they dont give any points for government charges. I have a westpac altitude black MC, a ANZ Black Qantas freq Flyer and a citibank infinite Visa..

When i checked the TCs of all 3, they all state no points for government charges etc. So Amex seems to be the only option.

What the T&Cs say and what actually happens are often two different things. I know Westpac pays points on government Mastercard charges except for payments to the ATO (I actually kept this card until its annual fee came up again before cancelling just to use it for government payments, but decided it wasn't worth it after that), although I know that Citibank blocks points on just about everything remotely related to government. Unsure about ANZ.

I will take one for the team. Even though the coles mc pays me nearly 1 velocity point/ dollar, i will continue to pay my bills using amex/paypal to see if there is a certain time of day or trigger to get the 2PPD instead of 0.5PPD

I think some have been able to get manual adjustments back for Amex/Paypal/Postbillpay transactions?
