I've got a transit in MIA in October flying AA CDG to DFW. Scheduled times leave a 2 1/2 hour gap late afternoon.

How nervous should I be? All on the one PNR.

Somewhat. MIA often subject to ATC delays and/ delays on apron waiting for a gate, due to congestion. 2 of my last 3 int/dom connections.

Although you will be 'protected' by AA and put on the next available flight, if getting to DFW is time important, see if there is a flight a bit later.

Thanks, RooFlyer

Would it be any easier on a Sunday?

With luck you'll be deposited from CDG at an 'E' or midrange 'D' gate, otherwise it can be a long walk and train ride.

MIA is currently my least favourite US port of entry when needing to make a connection. So much so instead of trying to make a 2 hour connection on next months trip I've decided to overnight and get out the following morning.

You are protected, however my last few INT-DOM connections have been horrendous and stressful so if there is a later MIA-DFW option I'd take it. There are plenty of lounge options so generally the time passes quickly.

Couldn't say, sorry, but I wouldn't bank on it.

This gives wait times of immigration at various US airports. Its only immigration, and not customs or re-clear security once you get dumped land side, but if you look up Sunday for MIA Vs other days and the time of your arrival, it might be a proxy as to how busy the airport is at those times. But the problem I've had both times was getting to the damn gate to start the process.

even with the kiosks the queues were horrendous last month on arrival from liberia so I would recommend a later flight or do as we do spend the night at the Grand Hyatt DFW and then a very easy checkin the following morning and a quick process through security as the D terminal is usually empty in the mornings and all the stress of making a connection is forgotten !!

Thanks to all for your assistance. A quick call to the QF premium line (a reason in itself for wanting to retain WP) and I've added 3 hours to the connection time.

Murphy's Law tells me that I'll now have adjacent gates, and I'll get through in about 5 minutes.

Hope so, but that's a tad optimistic. Don't forget you'll need to clear immigration, customs and then re-clear security :)

This reminded me of one of my international-xMIA-DFW transits, recounted as a rant here. (Begins after the initial pics in that post. Look for the 'train wreck'). 1 hr 50 mins from de-planing to getting back to the Admiral's club.
